Calendar of the Ages

The age of Sylvania is unknown, but scholars generally believe it has existed for at least 50,000 years. In that time, the known races began appearing in the world. Many of them found themselves a place to make their home, a few proceeded to dominate the others, and some were unable to survive at all. Occasionally the entrance of a new race was so grand that it sparked a new age for the world.

Age of Primordials (A.Pr.)

Syvania, in its early days, was populated only by lesser forms of life — plants, beasts, and primitive monsters. Almost nothing is known about this era.

Age of Elvenkind (A.El.)

The first civilizations of the world occurred soon after the entrance of the first intelligent race — the elves.

Unwritten Ages

Several ages began upon the entrances of various races.

Age of Dwarvenkind (A.Dw.)

As far as scholars could determine, the dwarves went farther than any other race in world dominance. Records show that at their peak, the dwarven empire controlled more that 40% of the known world. This age lasted for nearly 18000 years, setting the longest age since the primordials.

Calendar

The dwarven empire was known to use a loose yearly calendar that was divided by the four seasons.

Age of Humanity (A.Hu.)

Eventually, humans entered the world. By far, they were the most adaptable and ambitious among the races, which led to them spreading throughout the entire world. It wasn’t through just war — though that did play no small part — but also by assimilating themselves among the others. Entire single-race civilizations began accepting humans into their population, as they were often well-aligned and generally unthreatening. Inversely, human lands ended up hosting the most diverse civilizations across Sylvania. Since then, many of the common races became more open with each other and starting living side by side. Eventually, wars and conflict became less between race, and more between nations and territories.

Calendar

The humans quickly settled upon a more structured calendar system by dividing the years into 12 30-day months and 5-6 off-days.
