Babel

Babel is a cybernetic implant, usually deployed using nanites, which acts as a translating service for the brain, and makes the languages known to it second-nature for the user. The user effortlessly decyphers written symbols, understands the speech of speakers, and can write and speak that language.   If a language is not in a pack, as a rule, you can't use it, however if you have all main forms of the Freen language, then there is a chance that you may be able to understand another Freen language through deduction. Either the sound is similar to another Freen language or the symbols used in text are actually shared with another Freen language and so on.   The languages known depends on the language modules loaded into the nanite software. Languages are available as units, but are often sold in packs. One frequently buys the Freen pack, which gives access to the four most commonly spoken languages plus one or two others. Amalgamated packs are sold in Monarchrate societies, which give you Neolodian, Mandarin, Spanish, Esperanto, Latin, the four Freen languages, the two Ronite languages, and the three Clavian languages. Currently, Xan, Dani and Zoti are too obscure in Monarchrate territories to be part of pack, but can be bought individually.
