Houtenland (/ˈɦɑu̯.tə(n).lant/)
Houtenland is a primarily Dutch-speaking, fairly large country with a population of ≈34,000,000. They are heavily wooded in most places and work to preserve their forests in modern times, often giving up wood-based products for more environmentally friendly ones. Many businesses have legal “tree-cutting areas” where the trees in the area sectioned off for them are the only ones they cut for production.

History
Historically, because of its rich forests and high wealth, Houtenland has been the victim of many conquest attempts. So far, all have failed. One attempt, called conquista del bosque, came strikingly close in 1776, nearly assuming control of the country’s executive branch, until the leader of the conquest was killed by a citizen by means of gunshot.

Agriculture & Industry
One of Houtenland’s largest income sources is tourism. For whatever reason, they have also developed a large dog breeding industry, spanning across many lands. It’s exceedingly strange because most people in Houtenland claim to prefer cats.

Houtenland excels in education, with over 98% of the population being literate. Many people from other areas nearby like to travel to Houtenland for education.
