Hyperspace and Subspace
Similar to alternate universes or dimensions overlaid with "realspace", enabling amazing technology. On another dimensional axis in addition to the normal three, objects can move into hyperspace or subspace.
The differences between these spaces, and realspace, determines what can be done with them.
In hyperspace, forces propagate instantly, there is no delay due to lightspeed. Objects in hyperspace have no speed limit, useful for interstellar spacecraft.
Forces in hyperspace and realspace can affect each other- This is why hardlight shields projected into hyperspace are tangible in realspace.
The metric substrate of hyperspace is easier to manipulate than that of realspace. Hyperspace metric engineering uses less energy than realspace metrics.
Forces in subspace cannot affect realspace, and the speed of light is lower. This is why "submarines" can pass through realspace objects, but have limited speed and can't see where they're going.
Metric engineering in subspace is similarly easier. Subspace "pockets" can be used as heat sinks or storage.
Objects with mass in hyperspace or subspace are pulled back toward realspace, similar to gravity pulling objects together.
Manifestation
Objects in hyperspace interact with light and gravity mostly normally, they are visible but look strange. Objects in subspace do not interact, and vanish.
