Sea Orc

Sea Orcs, known as Arorks in Orcish, are a race of naval warriors that settle along the frozen coastlines of World's End and the Iron Highlands where they raid neighboring villages for supplies and glory alike.

Appearance

Anatomy

Sea Orcs are more broad-shouldered than their Stone Orc relatives, but are shorter in stature. Their skin tones tend towards grays and greens, and they have longer and more-pronounced tusks.

Clothing

Sea Orcs commonly dress in layers of fur and hide to keep warm. It's common to see bones and wooden carvings adorning their attire. In warmer climates, Sea Orcs may wear simple hide wrappings to keep themselves decent.

Armor

Sea Orc combatants may opt for more layers of thick hide over softer furs for added protection. Some will use the skulls of large animals as makeshift helmets.

Culture

Family Structure

The traditional concept of a family is foreign to Sea Orcs. Instead, Sea Orc children are raised by non-combatant women of the clan until they are old enough to fight, at which point they're passed on to elder warriors for training. Children who are not suitable for combat will remain with the child-rearers until they are old enough to fit in another role in Sea Orc society. To this end, parents don't lay claim to their own children beyond the first year, and many Sea Orcs have multiple partners.

Religion

Aera

Sea Orcs primarily worship an ocean-bound goddess named Aera who offers prosperity and security in exchange for victory in battle. To this end, Sea Orc warbands sail to neighboring settlements to raid and pillage, offering the fallen of both sides and a portion of their plunder as a tribute to the goddess. Sea Orcs will commonly offer those who died outside of battle to the depths, likewise, as long as the person was not dishonorable. It's also common for Sea Orcish ships and settlements to have wooden carvings depicting Aera, as though she is forever watching over them.

Murkur

Sea Orcs attribute safe travel by night to a god known as Murkur, who puts stars in the skies to help guide those that he deems worthy. As a show of thanks or as a request for clear skies, Orcish sailors may burn fragant herbs or fresh meat as though to offer the aroma to the night sky. Unlike Aera, Sea Orcs don't depict Murkur as having a physical form, but instead believe that they are the night sky itself.

Surr

Sea Orcs at least acknowledge the existence of Surr, the forge-god primarily worshipped by the Stone Orcs. Smiths and craftspeople amongst the Sea Orcs are more likely to worship Surr as a secondary god. The faithful may decorate their products with flame iconography in the hopes that Surr blesses their craft.

Government

The strongest rule in Sea Orc society, and often only for a short while. Within a tribe of Sea Orcs, there are regular challenges for power in which orcs will fight to assert dominance. These fights are almost always without weapons, and a common need for survival keeps the Sea Orcs from trying to outright kill each other in these challenges.   The strongest of the clan is named the Warchief, and they ultimately make all the decisions on behalf of the clan. While some Warchiefs welcome the advice of elders and comrades, others rule in solitude.
