Faun

Author's Note: I don't really like how this race is turning out, and I think I'll probably shelf it in favor of a different beastman-inspired race in the future. I feel like Faun just turned out particularly tropey and don't really offer anything interesting from a playability perspective.

Appearance

Anatomy

Faun are relatively large bipedal mammals with hooves and a antlers. As adults, they stand around six feet tall with females generally being slightly shorter than males. Their skin is covered by thick, short hair that comes in colors ranging from medium brown to white. Faun faces extend outwards towards the nose and are generally fairly angular. Their ears lack lobes and extend almost perpendicular to the face, coming to rounded points at the tips. Thicker hair grows from their jaws and the tops of their head and comes in earthy tones.

Clothing

Fauns mostly dress in simple, loose-fitting clothing made from layers of plants, hides, and other animal parts. Animal bone, shards of flint, and wooden carvings are often added as necklaces or trinkets to honor friends, family, and nearby animal populations. In colder climates, Fauns may also wear larger fur cloaks draped over their shoulders to stay warm while travelling.

Armor

Faun combatants are rare, but those who desire additional protection may weave short branches or bones into their clothing. Tortoise shells, skulls, and bark are also common choices for extra padding and protection. Because of their antlers, Fauns rarely wear any kind of hood or helmet.

Culture

Naming Practices

Fauns are named by their parents at birth and are usually named after a feature of the natural world. Many names are in form of an adjective-noun pair, but others may be phrases or single words. Fauns have no family names or surnames of any kind.   Some examples of Faun names are: Stormy Night, Swinging Vine, Chorus That Stills The Water, Winter

Family Ideals

Fauns maintain close relations with family, although they are often not co-located after reaching adulthood. Instead, Fauns may opt to live together in small groups or even entirely alone and regularly travel to meet up with friends and relatives at known gathering locations. In place of something like a surname, Fauns commonly use carvings and other trinkets as a way of identifying themselves as part of a family lineage. For example, the son of someone named "Gentle Hawk" may wear a wooden hawk carving at his waist.

Religion

Government

Fauns don't usually live in large groups and therefore don't have settlements to speak of. However, they do regularly convene at various gathering spots throughout woodlands. When these gatherings occur, the eldest of those gathered may impart wisdom or make requests of those in attendence in the hopes of maintaining peace and security for the area. Most have come to expect to leave such gatherings with a newfound purpose and even look forward to the occasion as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf.

Economy and Industry

Fauns regularly exchange homemade items when they gather.

Spread and Influence

Geographic Distribution

Fauns can be found in wooded lands in Goldenwood, the Backcountry, the Iron Highlands, and the northern parts of The Sun Coast. It's rare to see more than few Faun at a time, as they tend to live in small groups or total isolation.
