Rivairran Union
Colloquially known as "the Reach", the pastoral coastal lands of the Rivairran Union are among the most populous and oldest of Imperial Territories. Encompassing Rivairra, Ascálon and Antyra, its veneer of beauty and grace hides the most Machiavellian plots of the Empire, with by far most of the notorious conflicts and feuds of its history taking place here - including several Crusades. The Empire's breadbasket with by far the most food production and exports, and "the Height of Imperial Culture" - if you ask a Reachman that is.
Structure
Ruled by the High Queen of Silex, the seat belonging to House Caelum in Gryphon's Roost for the last five centuries.
Even may she be Warden, the High Queen officially has no direct influence besides the City she rules. The King of Ascálon is technically a vassal afforded liberties in exchange for gold mining rights, and Antyra is a Rivairran Protectorate, which, though a Raivairran House is in charge, is in truth ruled by the interests of its many Merchant Princes, and largely governs itself, acting in practicality more like a close ally to the Empire than a part of it. While Rivairra might seem to rule from the outside looking in, it is entirely beholden the Antyran merchants and Ascálonian gold.
Public Agenda
The Reach is always pushing for more power and influence, with plenty of Noble Houses always wanting more chips on their shoulders. With Their economy being vital to the Empire, they have quite a lot of political weight to throw around when push comes to shove.
Assets
The most populous region of the Empire, with by far the most soldiers and farms, possessed of vital trade routes with the Bann and Libertans, the Reach is the pillar upon which the Imperial Economy rests.
History
The Reach stems from the long and bloody history of strife, intrigue and war. Internal and external, warring amongst themselves over land disputes and religious strife, warring with Dwarves to conquer them, warring with what was long ago, a foreign empire coming to their shores.
Most recently, a century ago, Antyra declared independence and was swiftly crushed in a brutal conflict, headed by the Rivairran General that would later become Emperor Marius IV. The Protectorate was established, and House Alacrán put in charge of the Grand Duchy of Altis to keep the Merchant Princes in check - but at the same time, the Princes were satisfied behind closed doors, and placated with promises of freedom and influence. Today, the Protectorate practically governs itself, though it happily provides taxes and soldiers when the Empire calls on them, a testament to the duality of the region and the Emperor both.
