The Deserters

‘Where failures go to be out of sight.’

The Deserters was founded by Corporal Eric Richards, Private Indra Hackney and private Charles Laurent; as a support group for meta humans avoiding the draft and soldiers reincorporating to civilian life.
Beside the support group the Deserters are also a superhero team and occasionally a comedy band parodying The Middle Ground and The Round Table.

History

Richards and Hackney were drafted in 2001 to serve as part of a British meta human platoon in Iraq.
Both were vocal critics of the invasion and known objectors.
Since their defection in 2003 they’ve been wanted for treason and are considered to be a subversive anti government cell of meta humans; that said most of the British meta human community tolerates them, since the charges against them are considered mostly political and they are considered a net positive for the country.
Charles Laurent would join them in 2004, after deserting his position in Chad. Laurent helped develop their public image by soothing public perception and smoothing the image of the group as objectors rather than traitors. Laurent named the group ‘The Deserters’ and with Richards and Hackney published an album parodying The Middle Ground in particular and British cape culture in general.
Since Laurent joined, they have become increasingly popular as an alternative political group.

Indra Hackney

The current leader of the Deserters, she can possess a multitude of people in a short area, while using her powers her own body disappears until she cancels her powers. The more people she controls at once the weaker her powers become.

Charles Laurent

Laurent has the ability to fly, during flight he can establish waypoints to which he can teleport or teleport other people to them by tagging them.

Rat-Boy and Rat-Girl

Rat-Boy is a runaway kid that has mutated to look like a rat. He has the ability to communicate with rats and carries one, Rat-Girl, as his sidekick, supposedly she’s a genius but no one in the team has ever experienced her being anything but a common rat. Rat boy has an enhanced jaw, capable of gnawing through soft metals or hard leathers as well as inflicting lethal damage to humans bitten.
