The constellation of the South represents summer, the element fire and vigour – it embodies a strong yang energy. According to the legend, the Fenghuang was born in a ruby cave at the South pole, before ascending to heaven and being worshipped as one of the celestial beasts and the ruler of the feathered. The Fenghuang of the South is one of the five celestial animals and is full of elegance and beauty representing the qualities of: virtue, duty, civility, correct behaviour, humanity and reliability. It is regarded as a guarantee for favourable opportunities and financial success. Simultaneously it stands for energy, fire, zest for action and public reputation. The bird evokes the feelings of joy and confidence. Like any winged creature it embodies freedom, self-confidence, ease and spontaneity. Corresponding to summer a time of heat and dryness, it is strongly associated with fire and is depicted with flaming feathers of the deepest red. Often paired with the golden dragon, Huanglong, for the two represent both conflict and wedded bliss. Fenghuang is associated with the imperial line as the golden dragon is represented on earth by the emperor and Fenghuang by the empress. Portrayed with radiant flaming feathers, and an enchanting song; it descends to earth in times of good fortune. Fenghuang are elegant and posses great grace and poise, they are often the centre of attention and make inspiring leaders or captivating consorts or entertainers, creatures of passion and intuition they often act before thinking and are known to be mercurial and spontaneous. Perhaps not the best of planners they’re often ingenious at improvisation especially in areas of the arts such as poetry, musical compositions and dance.

Elemental Adversity: Any class features, feats, special abilities or spells you use which deal damage or inflict penalties function as if one character, class, or caster level higher when the recipient has the (Metal) subtype. Lucky Stars: The Southern Mansion is know to possess a great many auspicious celestial bodies and the Fenghuang makes its nest at the confluence of these.
