Dinrakis Settlement in Spindle | World Anvil

Dinrakis

Nestled in the Malanate foothills on the northernmost bank of the Malasti river the town of Dinrakis is a sleepy one most of the year, only seeing an influx of people on the days when the Vu'Ko'Kita come to trade. For the rest of the year, the town prospers, relying on the river of the local god Lady Malakye to provide all that is needed.   The last town before the Vukotin Desert it is one of the few places outside of that place that is it not uncommon to see one of the Vu'Ko'Kita, indeed they descend on the place once every season to trade their desert glass and Lighting leaf pickles.    One of the strangest sights that Dinrakis has is the edge. called this by many it is the place where the influence of the Lady Malakye ends. here the emerald green grass stops and the desert begins. there is no gentle gradient, no occasional drift of sand or a lone plant that sprouts further out than usual. Just the edge. A stark reminder that the desert is godless, and that the local gods' power is absolutely finite.

Demographics

A human settlement, outside of the trading season there is rarely anyone from any of the other races present in the town.

Government

The town is run by an Abbess, a rank similar to that of a mayor but who also administers to the religious needs of the town and ensured that proper tribute is paid to the local god. This role is not elected but chosen by the god.   Below her sit her acolytes, all priestesses of the Order of Malakye.

Defences

Being on the bank of the Malasti river the town has little fear of attack, whilst at first glance their defences seem to be near non existant, should at attack happen sluce gates are opened and the rivers waters are released, revealing that the town sits at the center of a long dried up bow-lake. once surrounded by the waters of the river the town is then akin to a fortress, the Abbess and her acolytes able to control the river at will, summoning elementals or walls as needed

Industry & Trade

A river and trade town the locals are primarily fishermen, taverners and crafters.    The crafters of the town use the bounty of the river in many creative ways, from jewellers who use the smooth river stones in the place of precious gems, to weavers who harvest the kelp and make baskets and more.

Infrastructure

The town is entirely self-sufficient but also is in a location that means they are a hub for trade and travel. There are many more inns and taverns than you might expect for a town of its size due to this. There are also lots of large empty areas connected by roads which are broader and more well maintained than one would expect.

Guilds and Factions

The main faction present in the town is the Order of Malakye. The local gods most devout followers and chosen. in the Malasti foothills their word is law, and in Dinrakis, the region's largest town that goes double.
