The Black Market of Axtrixia: The Shadow Market

Axrixa has a black market called, The Shadow Market. It sells illegal and legal goods and you’ll often find goods you can’t get anywhere else at this location. As you adventure through the market you’ll find a wide variety of races, some of which only appear inside the Shadow Market.

Purpose / Function

The Shadow Market is a hub for anyone looking to sell goods in Axtrixia. The royal family knows it exists and condones its existence: This is because of the rare goods the hub draws in and it is a popular tourist destination.

Alterations

The Shadow Market changes its location every day. During the winter, all of the shops are covered in white and purple fabric. During the summer, the shops are covered in orange and yellow fabric.   Over the years the shops have seen other alterations and adjustments. New wood is brought in to keep everything looking sharp and security is beefed up over the years.

Architecture

Each shop inside the market is influenced by the race who owns the stall. You’ll find elven architecture a lot because it is most common for elves to run stalls inside the Shadow Market.   All of the markets sport the color purple as a tribute to the royal family. Some owners view it as a way to say thank you for letting their shop operate in peace.

Defenses

The royal guard is all over The Shadow Market. They keep everyone in line and make sure thieves can’t come and go as they please. Some shops hire private security guards as an extra layer of protection.

History

For as long as Axtrixia has existed so has The Shadow Market. The market is notable because every royal family member meets their spouse here, regardless of the nation where the spouse is originally from.   It was from documents bought at The Shadow Market that a select few learned about the Arcane Portals keeping the supernatural and paranormal worlds at bay. From documents here, it was also learned that there is an overworld outside of Arcadia that houses humans, strictly.
Many notable murders have happened here too, but those records are covered up and kept secret from the rest of the general population.
