Nasim Alghasaaq

Nasim Alghasaaq

Nasim was born into a high standing trader family, as the 5th child out of 6. She always had a knack for studying. Valuing it as her only talent, her parents pushed her to be amongst the top of her class, and she worked for it as expected. She ended up going into Wizardry after high school, and major in Divination Magic, the school of knowledge. Her parents didn't approve, given it was the least flashy school of them all, but her grades were excellent, so they weren't allowed to complain. Her education was supposed to take a full 8 years. About halfway in, she received a vision. Studying divination magic, it is not unheard of to receive small flashes of the future. Among her peers, this is known as the Portent ability, that manifests when specializing in divination magic. This was nothing like it. She saw the living room of her house being torn open by a foot taking the roof of. The ground is shaking and the floor crumbles, heat rising from the earth and the last thing she sees is the starry sky as she's being tossed into space. The vision shook her to her core. She researched about it, what this could possibly mean, what could possibly cause it, but had no definite leads. The vision was clear but also very, very short. The only variable there was left was the living room. She switched majors to Library Sciences, as it was much quicker to finish and courses overlapped. She minored in Linguistics to finish even earlier, and at age 24, she finally got her degree. She quickly looked for a job, desperate to earn money and move out to a quiet place where hopefully fate wouldn't catch up. The first day she was supposed to start her job, it happened. The ground shook and she was flung into space. She blacked out as she thought that was it- but it wasn't. Six months after, she woke up on an unknown planet, with a new vision fresh on her mind. She didn't know where she was or why she even survived. She was told she dropped out of the sky and was in a coma up until now- but it didn't shake her feeling that there was more. What was the point of seeing her home get torn apart before it happened? Why did she survive? As she follows the first bits of directions from her new vision, she hopes to find the rest of the answers on the way.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Nasim is not very athletic, but has a mostly slim build.

Facial Features

She has mostly sharp features, and sharp light brown eyes.

Apparel & Accessories

Nasim tends to wear modest black clothes. High neckline shirts, blouses or tunics are a staple for her. She has a set of gold plated earrings still from home, and a necklace she got as gift from Atlas that she will always wear.

Social

Family Ties

  • Amir Alghasaaq: Her father. An ambitious man but not a very warm one. He is very business oriented, which is why Nasim isn't too fond of him. His trading business is rumored to contain something shady.
  • Zaina Alghasaaq: Her mother, for as far as Nasim knows. Rumors have circulated that not all of her children are actually hers. Nasim pities her, but doesn't feel actual kinship to her.
  • Ghara'ab Alghasaaq: Her younger brother. They differ by 2 years. They grew up together, unlike her older siblings who mostly were away from home by the time they got out of infancy. They were really close, but around his teen years they grew more and more apart. He is actually a very charming person, charismatic to boot, which proved to be an asset to their father, but this also placed him into the position where his father would force him to do things in order to maintain business relations. This came to a peak quickly before her graduation, and he separated from the family. She hasn't heard from him since.

Religious Views

Nasim has been taught a lot about religion during her education, but doesn't actually worship a deity. If asked, she'll identify as Agnostic. She values religion's role as comfort and how it adds meaning to life for some, but to her it's mostly mythology and an interesting perspective on how humanity as a whole sees society and the world. Only when she comes face to face with an actual god does she believe they actually exist, but even then she does not have a particular one she worships.

Mannerisms

Nasim generally comes off as quiet and polite, preferring to keep to herself and mind her own business. People that will have known her for longer tend to pick up more subtleties in her expressions, although she prefers to keep her composure about her.

Hobbies & Pets

Her main hobby is Magic, as this has been the focus of her life for many, many years. Outside of magic, she likes trying different types of coffee, though she is not particularly picky. She also likes to read and research, as she likes to learn.

Speech

She's polite, and her word usage can sometimes be considered a little stiff. She can be quiet but can also hold a proper conversation if prompted.

The librarian that wanted a normal life but fate decided otherwise

Detailing of Events Thusfar

I initially had no intentions of writing down what had happened, as it was a lot and for some reason I feared that if I wrote it out I'd finally realize how ridiculous I sound. After all, the series of events that unfolded after I woke up for the first time was unexpected, to say the least. Then again, I did not expect to wake up at all. Even if it took eight months for me to awaken, according to Maison, who took care of me while I was comatose.   I fully expected to be dead. It's been months and sometimes I still wonder why I'm still alive. I'm glad to be alive, don't get me wrong. I got more than I deserved from the moment I woke up here, but I'm getting ahead of myself.   Starting from the beginning, though. The Forgotten Realms are gone. It was torn apart by Titans, led by Gaia, and I saw it coming by estimation a year before it happened. The vision had been vivid- and very short. Research yielded nothing but fear of the inevitable and paranoia about my childhood home. It took a while for me to cope- not the most elegant solution, but it worked all the same- until I found the best solution I could come up with to deal with the actual matter itself.   And I was close, incredibly so. I switched majors from Divination Wizardry to Library Sciences, minored in Linguistics, and worked myself to the bone to finish early. It was my first day at my new job when everything fell apart. Moving out was almost in reach. I'd never have to set foot in that living room again- it was the only part of my vision that was in my control. The place where I was supposed to die; If I never returned there, then the vision couldn’t come true. At least not in the way I had seen it.   And when everything finally happened, and I thought I was about to die, I woke up. I still have flashes of memories just before then, but I am uncertain whether those were real or fragments of dreams I had when I slept. They are fuzzy at best, nonsensical at worst, though one dream was clear and burned into my memory like life depended on it. The sight of a man, beaten and chained. A waterfall beating down on him, his armor broken around him, blood dripping down from the lashings on his back. His eyes were an intense ocean blue.   Your fates are intertwined, I had heard a voice say, followed by additional instructions that I will write down in here later. That’s not why I’m writing this story down- I haven’t forgotten the instructions, even if I’m not currently pursuing them. I fully intend on doing that, but hopefully the next few entries will explain why I haven’t yet.   In any case, that vision, that dream was the first time I saw Atlas. I did not know his name, or whether he would be an enemy or ally- but he was going to be important. That much I knew.   Apparently, Maison thought the same thing when he found me dropping down from the sky. He insisted that I was special, something I wholeheartedly disagreed on, and told me I should attend a ceremony that was about to be held soon. Something regarding champions… I didn’t have anywhere else to go, and frankly any information was welcome at this point, so we traveled down to the temple where the rite was going to take place.   I only intended to be a spectator; Maison’s words suggested I was supposed to spectate, at least. When I arrived, the champions in question arrived as well. Dropping from a portal higher up in the sky, with more people in tow. I could not see my own face when I was told that two of them were Gods, but I figure the look on my face was priceless. One of the champions was Kuru. She was friendly towards me right off the bat, though I knew my being there was odd at best and creepy at worst.   Apparently the ceremony involved the champions receiving a prophesy from the Oracle that resided in the temple. When the Oracle first came in, she asked me to step forward first. I told her she must be mistaken, since I’m no champion, but she read my future anyway. Then, I saw Him again.   He was pulling at his bounds, angry, desperate to fight for his freedom against the unfeeling metal holding him back. I couldn’t hear him, but I could still feel his screams, his anger in the depths of my being. I had to cling to my sanity and sit down before the sight faded from my mind. In that moment, he was frightening. I was almost certain he was to be my enemy, waiting to be able to get his hands on me.   (there’s a little arrow in the margin here with a bit of Orcish text (1))   The champions then stepped forward to receive their prophesies, and after that two of their companions fell ill. I offered to help, thinking they suffered from heatstroke, while apparently they went through a spiritual experience. Some drama ensued that I won’t get into detail on, as it wasn’t my business and it still isn’t, but after it Maison, who had brought me here, was gone. Kuru invited me into their home to recuperate, and after determining that Maison had indeed ditched me, I went with them, crashing on their couch for what I guess was about a week.   Kuru was among the people that defeated Gaia, avenging the Forgotten Realms and ensuring she won’t harm any more planets. Not long after, Sarah approached me about the prophecy I received. She told me she knew of someone who might be able to help, and set me off at a forest with a bag of supplies that turned out to be empty and housed a talking owl by the name of Blade instead.   He told me some things about who I’m supposed to find, describing him as my ‘companion’, and telling me that he needs my help. That we share a primal connection, that we’re tied together on a deep level. A connection that Blade said he knew of one other time it happened in the Megaverse, long before he was even around. He said it was something that only happens when the universe decided something can be ‘perfect’.   I don’t believe in soulmates, never have and never will, and I told Blade as such back then. Being forced into another arrangement by the universe rather than my family is nothing I am interested in, though… I do want to know what all of this means. Who even is this person? Why are we connected?   Is there any significance to our so called connection?   Blade told me some more about him, as well. He told me he was a werewolf, which for me meant that one bad move and he’d be the death of me. Blade told me not to worry, since I seemed smart enough to not get myself killed, and that he was ‘in control’, as he put it. I wanted to argue that the last time I saw him he did not look very in control.   Blade also told me that he was not unlike the kids Kuru takes care of, although he was not lucky enough to be saved. He told me he lost everything a man could possibly lose, and that gave me pause. Considering what he possibly could have lost, I felt… sorry for him. I hadn’t forgotten how dangerous he had felt, and that if he deemed me dangerous he could kill me, but I figured that if I survived the rendering apart of a planet, I could deal with a werewolf.   We met not too long after that conversation with Blade. The ground I walked on gave way and I fell down several feet into a cavern. The floor was drenched, water up to my ankles, and when my eyes were able to see through the darkness, there he was. Shackled on both his arms and legs, forced into a kneel. Battered and bruised. His voice was hoarse and rough when he asked me who I was. I told him my name, and offered to try and unchain him if he allowed me to come closer. Whether or not he could hear that I was afraid, I don't know. I tried to sound as calm as I possibly could muster. When he finally met my eyes it felt like he looked through me like I was made of glass.   He gave me the okay to approach, and so I did. I was glad I had learned the Knock spell during my studies, as this helped me free him with little effort albeit with a bit of noise. I asked him if he could stand, and he very quickly proved to me he could stand just fine as he lunged forward and lifted me up by the shirt. It was just as I suspected. I had hoped an act of good will would have at least prevented him from attacking me, but as he hissed at me demanding to know who I worked for, I realized he still had no reason to trust me, and I had nothing to say to him to prove to him he should.   What was I going to say? That I had seen him in a dream before? That we're a universe designated pair with a destiny? I didn't need to say it out loud to know how ridiculous I would sound, and yet, that was all I had to offer him.   So that's what I told him. That I had seen him in a dream while being told to find him, and that without knowing where I was, or even why I'm here, that he was my only lead. I hoped it would be enough to prevent getting straight up mauled, and when he slowly lowered me to the ground again he gave me a grin. "You dreamt about me?"   I don't know what I expected his reaction to be back then, but I didn't expect that, at the very least. In hindsight, I should have known that that grin meant trouble in my near future. Whoever he was, and for whatever reason we needed to be near each other, there was something about him that was odd to me. Not in the more obvious supernatural way, but there was something about how he carried himself and behaved that I wasn't sure how to treat him. I opted to ignore it for now, brushed off the dream remark and focussed my energy on how to get out of this underground cavern.   He wasn't too keen on my solution, and preferred grabbing me by the waist and attempting to jump the distance up over magic. He made it halfway before we came crashing back down. After that, he allowed me to get us out using magic. He wasn't too much of a fan, and struggled the entire way up while cursing and flailing. I had to focus on keeping the spell up, but seeing him struggle almost made me laugh. It helped take the tension off a little.   I had almost forgotten the fact that we were in the middle of nowhere and I had no survival skills whatsoever. I didn’t know where the next bit of civilization was, or how to get us food, nothing really. I never had any reason to learn skills like that, given that all I ever truly did was studying. My companions are an injured werewolf who threatened me minutes prior, and a bird (sorry Blade). While my chances weren’t zero, I can’t say I was very optimistic either. Atlas told me that nothing would attack us, as he was, and I quote, ‘an apex predator’. I was still ill at ease, but surprisingly, Atlas did not seem hostile towards me after the one threat. He seemed to treat me quite neutral after, maybe even with a bit of curiosity (which I can’t blame him for- though I don’t think I had any satisfactory answers to offer him). He shared a little about himself, that he was a paladin under Athena, and I told him a little more about the dream I first saw him in. We went to sleep after, for as far as I was capable of it.   I will have to leave it at this as I need to turn off the lights. I'll continue writing tomorrow.
