Battaps

The Battaps are a species which has rose to dominance on the planet of Sparr, and has very recently started becoming integrated into the intergalactic communities of the universe by the Wandrarrs.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Battaps generally grow to about 1.5-2.75 feet tall, not including their ears, which can be up to six inches long themselves, and have very thick fur all across their bodies. This fur can come in various shades of black, gray, or brown. They have strong muscles for their small bodies, and can run and jump quite well. They are also very flexible, which only adds to their athletic abilities. They have sharp claws on their paws, which can be quite dangerous.

Ecology and Habitats

Battaps are naturally equipped to live in the forests, as they actually move faster through trees than on the ground, but have adapted to flat land and more civilized areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Battaps are omnivorous and have surprisingly strong stomachs. They very rarely get sick from things they eat, including most poisons, natural or otherwise. Despite their abundance of choices for food given their exceptionally strong resistances to illnesses and poison, they can be picky and tend to prefer fresh fruit over anything else. Still, few Battaps will turn down a good meal of any sort if no fruit is available.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

While most Battaps live on Sparr, many have made new lives for themselves outside of their home planet. Ferindune has an especially large Battap population, though they can be found on most advanced planets of that nature.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Battaps have large eyes and especially large ears. This grants them very powerful hearing, and little gets past them. While their other senses are decent, most of their sensing ability does come from their ears, and then their eyes.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

The Battaps on their own were relatively primitive before first contact with the Wandrarrs. Their weaponry, buildings, and most of their tools were stone and wood. However, upon meeting the Wandrarrs, things changed. Space stations were built and some of the larger nations embraced the incoming wave of technology, while others shunned and feared it.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Battaps lack the biological ability to speak Zamorian, which puts them at a communicative disadvantage as that is such a widespread language that one could almost call it universal. Instead, their language mainly consists of clicks, chirps, growls, hisses, and gurgles. Despite how it may sound to hear, the language is actually quite intricate and difficult to learn for outsiders. Battaps can still understand Zamorian, and tend to pick up on new languages quickly, even if they cannot speak them.

History

The Battaps have been a relatively primitive people for a long time, slowly advancing in technology and societal progression before the Wandrarrs made contact with them roughly 5 (Earth) years ago. Now they are becoming integrated into the modern world, with all of its extremely high-tech conveniences and troubles.
