Disclaimer: i don't think these are really necessary for story but i felt like writing them anyway; if SPACE was a video game we’d need em tho. Telepads are known by a variety of names; transpads, teleporters, even the household brand name JumpStand. The JumpStand Co. owns most telepads in populated regions. They charge a flat monthly rate for unlimited teleports or a one-time fee for a single teleport. Users are identified with a scan, the nature of which is determined by which they are most unique for their species. Once a traveler is authorized, they select their destination pad and are almost instantly teleported there. Jump-travel isn't for everyone, however; though the technology has made leaps and bounds many users are still rendered super nauseous by the process.
