Asteroid Ruin Memorial

Written by dweam

Found at the very edges of the known galaxy, these ancient ruins where once an experimental somuran colony 300,000 years ago. Back when the somur where more ambitious with their colonization projects, they decided to build up a small asteroid to make it large enough to sustain life. However, internal problems with the structural integrity combined with a huge solar wind rendered everyone on the station dead in one fell swoop. When the fleet finally returned in modern day, they left inscriptions detailing the events as a memorial. Out of the fear of leaving a blemish on their record (as well as respect for the dead), the somur diplomats of the current day refuse to translate the text, fearing for the former colony to be scrutinized endlessly for hints of their technology, or worse, a tourist attraction. They do admit however that the colony used to be far farther from known space than it is now, probably pushed into the vacuum by the initial solar flare and its aftershocks. Could be used in the story to be a place to hide from whatever and also make the somur seem less perfect space-fish elves.
