Blessing of Umbra

First given to Erandul the Moonsworn, the Blessing of Umbra has been given at times to important figures in the Midnight Kingdom, particularly in times of peril, when up to four gain a Blessing, though the blessing will manifest in different ways.

Effect

The Blessing of Umbra grants one of four blessings, depending upon the need, the first blessing, the blessing of Speed, has been given to a total of twenty people since Erandul received his Blessing, and grants enhanced speed of all sorts, including both physical and mental speed.   The second blessing, given to fifteen people since Erandul's blessing, is the blessing of Strength, and grants great physical and mental fortitude.   The third blessing, given to only two people after Erandul's blessing, is the blessing of Wisdom, and grants reasoning and intellect beyond reckoning.   The fourth and final blessing is powerful enough that no one since Erandul has been given it. Known as the blessing of Grace, it grants the ability to draw attention, extreme coordination, and a presence that weighs on people, forcing them to make a choice.

Manifestation

Recipients of the Blessing of Speed are marked with the new moon on their brow, symbolizing their speed being such that they cannot be seen by light.   Recipients of the blessing of Strength receive the mark of the full moon on their brow, representing their wholeness of both body and spirit.   Recipients of the blessing of Wisdom have the half moon marked on their foreheads, to represent that not everything is known, and the wisdom is needed when times become dark.   Bearers of the Blessing of Grace have the crescent moon marked on their foreheads, a testament to the touch of Umbra.
