Tiamat (Deity)

“She is the Worldmother. The Black Serpent. The Great Dark Sea. Tiamat, god-queen of a fallen world. Tens of thousands of years ago a goddess name Tiamat created a new world in a particularly vibrant and promising flow of the Astral Sea. The world thrived and life flourished, intelligent life spread and created huge beautiful civilizations. But all the promise hid a secret flaw. The world began to unravel. But facing the looming death of her creation Tiamat neither went quietly along with her creation nor fled to other climes. Instead she went mad. She consumed her consort and her entire pantheon, absorbing their power and transforming into something monstrous. Eventually she consumed their world. Becoming a living, seething sphere of darkness and pain and hunger. To fuel her world's life she began to consume neighboring worlds, adding them to her power. Finally, a coalition of deities from every world banded together to subdue her. Her horrible actions had given her a kind of inescapable immortality, even by the standards of gods. She could not be killed nor her world destroyed. So instead they crucified her and buried her within the astral sea. They forged a new world, imbued with powerful seals and used it as a weapon, driving it through her essence and cutting her off from the astral sea and its power. Now, through the intervention of mortal agents, Tiamat is threatening to burst free from her bonds, consuming Soma entirely before resuming her rampage through the cosmos. With 5 of the 12 seals broken she is closer than ever to escaping. Much about her true nature and history is unknown to mortals."
Tiamat is a corrupted Deity, the patron goddess of a failed world of The Astral Sea. By force of will and horrible cannibalization of her fellow pantheon members, Tiamat was able to undergo a horrifying metamorphosis, becoming a vampiric force, symbiotically bound up with her dying world. To sustain this state of malformed life, Tiamat devours healthy thriving worlds in the Astral Sea, absorbing their energies and accumulating their essence into her own dark being. At this point Tiamat is utterly mad, filled not only with an unending rage and hunger but also the echoing voices of an infinite number of destroyed worlds crying out from her gullet.
Despite her hunger, Tiamat no longer seems to be incapable of any form of true death. After thousands of years in stasis, locked beneath the Seals that bind her within Soma, she has not deteriorated in any noticable way. As the seals slip she has shown herself able to extend her influence into the mortal realm, at first subtly manipulating agents and now in more tangible acts of corrupted divine power. Her extended existence as a failed World-God has given her a unique relationship to the other failed or Dark Worlds within the Astral Sea and she has proven herself capable of drawing unusual and deadly power from this relationship.
