Thin Places
Though they usually refer to the Faery Realm, Thin Places are any point of substantial overlap between the physical realm of Soma and The Outer Dimensions which surround and flow through it. In these places the metaphysical distance between points is reduced or the barriers between worlds are weaker than normal. These conjunctions often defy conventional logic, relying as much on metaphor and magic as anything resembling science. A cold and dark copse of trees in the Great North Woods might briefly brush against a similarly dark and cold region of Faery. A particularly powerful expression of elemental power like a sustained whirlpool or volcano might also partially wedge open a gap into the Elemental Planes. Even in such a place it is rare for unaided passage to actually occur. Most often these thin places are utilized in various rituals and magical workings to either borrow power from an adjoining plane or to supplement an arcane effort to secure passage to the adjacent realm.
