Dragon

The myths of Dragons claim that once, in distant pre-history, there was only a single dragon, a super-deity of such immense power that its own internal nature could not be contained but its evil and good went to war within him. They eventually burst forth, splitting the dragon essence into good and evil and sending fragments of draconic souls scattering across The Astral Sea. Wherever these dragon souls fell they took on the nature of the world around them and blossomed into new forms of life. Dragons with the nature of fire or cold or filled with the purity and power running through the bones of the worlds.   On Soma dragons are rare but featured prominently in lore and legend. Certain regions and locales are said to host guardian dragons who watch over the land, the people or powerful relics. Other dragons wander through the world in mortal disguises, subtly moving the events of humankind. To come into contact with a dragon usually means becoming entangled with turbulent and dangerous times.   The history of arcane lore suggests that dragons mature at inconsistent rates. In isolation or raised among a population of dragons, a hatchling will mature incredibly slowly over thousands of years. However, some young dragons who take an active role in world affairs or are exposed to unusual energies can mature at much more dramatic rates, reaching adulthood after only a few decades.   Physiologically, mature dragons rank with the fiercest and toughest creatures on the planet. Their dense scale and muscle structure makes them a very threatening physical presence, easily capable of facing nearly any monster or mortal. In addition, nearly all varieties of dragon possess the capability for high speed flight as well as nearly unlimited use of a powerful elemental breath weapon. Even young dragons are also capable of channeling their impressive internal magical resevoir into sorcerous magic and some dragons devote themselves to improving and increasing their mastery of this power. In mature dragons all of these various traits come together to create a sort of tangible aura of power which lesser species experience as overwhelming fear.   Dragons mate only rarely, in keeping with their incredibly long lifespans. Dragon eggs also have an inconsistent incubation period ranging from a single year, with magical assistance from the mother, to several centuries. Hatchlings emerge fluent in Draconic and can absorb new languages almost instantly. Even a hatchling is an incredibly dangerous creature with capabilities vastly exceeding an average Human.
