Astral Realm

The Astral Realm

Also called the æther world, the astral realm is a plane of existence postulated by classical, medieval, oriental, and esoteric philosophies and mysterious religion. This is the world of Tir Na Nog, where the celestial spheres are crossed by the soul in its astral body on the way to being born and after mortal death, and is generally believed to be populated by creatures of the three Courts, spirits, or other immaterial beings not able to be seen by mortal eyes.

Traveling

There are two main types of travel methods within and between the realms.
  • Instant
  • Manual

Instant Travel

According to RVA teachings, the Astral Realm can be visited consciously through astral projection, meditation, mantra, near-death experience, lucid dreaming, and/or other means. Individuals that are trained in the use of the astral vehicle (physical body) can separate their consciousness in the astral vehicle from the physical body at will. The first stage in development, according to mortal Ramacharaka, is "mastery of the physical body and its care and attention", which pertains not only to the physical body in Midgard but also to its double in the Astral Realm of Tir Na Nog. In addition, a mortal must spend time tuning the "instinctive mind". The first three subdivisions of the instinctive mind are passions, desires, and lusts. The second stage is the intellect, otherwise known as the sharpening of the mind. Someone operating largely out of the instinctive mind would "have only a glimmering of intellect", therefore those who are centered in the intellect would only have an inkling of the spiritual. Once both stages are completed the spiritual mind can be awakened, and travel to the Astral Realm, for mortals, is attainable. Travel from the Astral Realm of Tir Na Nog, back to the Mortal Realm of Midgard isn't as easy. To obtain the ability to travel freely, throughout Realms, Kingdoms and, Regions, a creature must acquire certain Keys. These keys allow them to move freely, and more quickly, about the worlds we play in.   Portals and Keys:   Creatures (both mortal and non-mortal) will be able to travel at will, between the Realms of Akasha and Midgard, through specified Portals, guarded by the Kingdom's Rigeard (Royal guards), located in the Garden of Eden and throughout the Realms, with Keys. Citizens of NereidLykandos are given their second Key (required for passage through the Realm Portals), as a reward for moving out of the SiTara Hostels. Should they lose their residency outside SiTara (within another Region) for any reason, and need to move back into the Hostels (to avoid homelessness), the key will be revoked, until earned back, again. Because these Keys are handcrafted, by the Aios Dana, stolen and/or borrowed keys, will not work for anyone, other than the member it was created for. This key is not a physical object but is as visible as (and similar to) a tattoo-like marking on the skin of the character (design and placement is the choice of the character/author). It is bestowed with a specific Essence that cannot be harvested or collected by any other than the Aios-Dana. The Aios-Dana will perform a ritual known as the Key of Passage, in which the key will become a semi-permanent mark upon the Soul Particle of the character. Should the character be, or become homeless, this key will fade from visibility until residency can be established, and passage to and from the Mortal Realm of Midgard will be denied at all of these Portal sites.   Members who graduate from the SiTara Ludi Litterarri, are rewarded with the Litterarri Key. This Key is given by the Aios-Dana, similarly to the Key of Passage, via a ritual called the Passage of Knowledge, in which a tattoo-like mark is placed upon the member's Soul Particle. These Keys are visible to the Rigeard of NereidLykandos, as well as other members of NLK, with a slight glowing around the area, but are seen as mere tattoos to all Outsiders, therefore marking details are not necessary for them. Detailing your Keys in your profiles might, however, make for a better RolePlay later down the road though, so keep in mind what your's could be. This Litterarri Key, unlike the Key of Passage, is a permanently visible mark (design and placement is the choice of the character/author) that will allow passage to and from the Regions within NLK. A member will not receive this mark until they have graduated from the SiTara Ludi Litterarri. The only ways this mark can be removed (permanently) is if the character dies a True Death (in which their body exist no more), or if they are exiled (membership removed).   Travel via all other Portals, within NLK, Midgard and, Akasha are only permissible with their proper Keys. Some Keys will act as temporary passes and will fade after a specified time, so pay attention to how much time is allotted for each. For example, when traveling to designated Resource Sites (Mines, Farms and, Hunting Grounds), you are given a specified amount of time to collect your Raw Wares (typically one hour (on SiTara)). These times are located on the boards inside their designated buildings. Should you not collect the Wares in the allotted time frame, the Portal will close and your character will automatically be brought back to the original building. So if you only have an hour (for example) to collect some fresh veggies and fruits, and the clock hits one hour and one minute, all your Wares will stay, and you will go back to the Farm building's Portal entrance. Make sure you account for this time in your RolePlay because if caught going over, you could very well lose all the Wares you attempted to acquire. If you are unaware of the Portal Key required, it should be listed next to the Portal itself. If it isn't, ask the Guard or another member.   Portal sites can also (soon) be found on the Region's maps. Clicking on the provided link will allow direct passage to the IMVU Platform's Room, which contains the Portal. Information regarding each of the Portals will be under the Portal's description, on the maps and travel can be obtained by clicking the links, on the side of this page.   Currently, the Portals to Akasha are closed. When, and if, they reopen, you will be notified and this page will be updated.

Manual Travel

Travel throughout the Regions is also allowable via land, air, and water in the Travel Rooms (listed under the Portals at the right of this page) on the IMVU Platform. Each of the Region Maps include a layer for Grids, that can easily be clicked on. These Grids tell you the distance between areas located on the Maps. You must account for the time spent, via RolePlay, by using the correct amount of time it takes your character to get to and from each destination when traveling by these means. Vehicles used for transportation (horse, walking, swimming) detail your character's travel speeds. Using them within each of these three specific travel modes may vary. For example, traveling via ship in the water is faster than swimming. Please make sure you indicate which vehicle (mode of transportation) as well as the travel mode used, in your RolePlay.   Only individual members are allowed to travel via Portals, therefore Manual Travel is needed for Military Units in Raids. Below are the available "Vehicles", their modes of travel, and their travel speeds per travel mode.
Method Speed (km/h) Time to Cross 1 Map Grid Block*
Walking 5.00 7 hours
Horseback 6.44 6 hours
Kelpie 7.30 5 hours
Griffin (flying) 8.24 4 hours
Dragon (flying) 10.54 3 hours
Air Ship 15.81 2 hours
Water Ship / Boat 32.60 1 hour
Teleportation Instantaneous
*Each grid block on the map is 1000 square km, and is therefore approximately 31.62 km across on each side. For the purpose of simplicity, the Fae Realms of Tir Na Nog can avoid the increased travel length of a diagonal route.
