Ansalon

Old and mostly forgotten name for the human mainland continent.     The main of the mainland is mostly ruled by two mostly human kingdoms, the Free Cities of Palanthas and the Stormtide Kingdom. The Palanthas Kingdom is larger by land mass, and it has several provinces. While they call themselves the free cities, that is not technically true to the meaning of the term, since most of the area is part of a feudalistic system under the King of Palanthas. The large cities Valesburg, Highpond and Fitchview all have their own provinces ruled by Counts and Countesses, but who are still technically under rule of the Sunshimmer royal family in Palanthas.   The second major power in this part of the world is the Stormtide Kingdom. It is mostly a seafaring kingdom, but also owns some of the lands along the coastline. The capital of the Stormtide Kingdom is on an island Tide's end, located in the mouth of the Stormtide Bay opening to the wide ocean. Compared to the Free Cities, King Waverend rules with an iron fist more like a dictator. Still, the two kingdoms have mostly been in peace of mutual trade agreements for the last few centuries.     Ansalon is also home to the High-Vale Mountain Range, which is to the north of the Palanthas Kingdom. The mountains are primarily the home for two races; dwarves and the dragonborn. Dragonborn tribes and clans are scattered throughout the mountains but can be mostly found in the eastern half of the mountains. Dwarves on the other hand have a vast tunnel network under the mountains leading to many cities, the largest of which are Tur Malduhr, where the dwarven king Ungrim Grimbeard rules from, as well as Dir Wohrum and Kharn Tharim.   The Charm Kingdom is located to the east of the Free Cities and the mountain range.
