The Slum Lord

Not much is known about the Slum Lord of Paradise Stand. No one is even sure if it is a single person or a persona that the ruler of Paradise Stand's underworld takes on. The Slum Lord has been firmly in control of the underbelly of the capitol of the Republic for nearly a century now. Though in the business of crime, not all think of the Slum Lord as an evil person. Many recognize that part of the city's high wealth and low unemployment rate is due in no small part to the fact that the Slum Lord employs as many of the downtrodden and dispossessed as possible. In fact, even though his/her activities are explicitly illegal, there hasn't been a determined crack down on the criminal element of the city for quite some time. This is partly due to the fact that the Slum Lord keeps his/her empire on a very short leash. They say that many a thief, bandit, and thug has found themselves banished or otherwise taken care of after becoming too overzealous in their duties. Do not be confused for a moment though, the Slum Lord does run a criminal empire. Just as overzealous members of this empire have overstepped and been swiftly punished, so too have those who have attempted to drive their sword too deep into the territories under his/her control.
