Solar System 2990

Created by

A system on the brink of collapse. Marvellous technologies allowed for the colonisation of space, yet humanity brought their problems with them to the stars. Ideologies long thought to be dormant are rising again in the dark corners of the void, while politicians, fanatics and technocrats battle for control over the vast and valuable resources our home system has to offer.   The once grand nations and alliances of Earth have long since fallen apart, and have dissolved into smaller nation states in the west and north, while the east and south have become badlands, with city states scattered across the lands. Luna has become a refuge for the rich and wealthy of Earth, and while it is under the guise of government control, the great spin-cities of Luna are but puppets of the Solar systems companies and Mega-corps. Mars has no standing governments on its surface, only the small and scattered communities of the dome cities. The lack of unifying surface law makes Mars an ideal breeding ground for both the most intrepid of explorers and the most violent of criminals alike.   The great cloud cities of Venus pertain to the best and brightest minds humanity has to offer. It is in the labs and test facilities of Venus that great technologies are realised, and the hopes of one day making Venus a second Earth comes a few steps closer to fruition. Mercury has the lowest standing population of any of the major bodies in the solar system. The devastating solar radiation leads to most shipping in and out on a monthly basis, or risk the deadly results. The asteroid belt is home to stations of various sises, be it free standing or asteroid bound, but they all share the same circular structure that is instantly recognisable as as a hub for all cultures and peoples.   Saturn is too home to great cloud cities not unlike those on Venus, but they do instead focus on manufacturing. The great foundries of Saturn expel hundreds of ships, along with other products, every year, fuelled by resources collected form her moons an her belt. Barring the few scattered colonies on the Jovian moons, humanity has very little presence in the outer solar system beyond Saturn. Any wishes to create more cloud cities can be fulfilled by the vast and conditionally safer Saturn. This series will explore the history of our Solar System, the nations and peoples it contains, and the great events that would come to define it.
