The Golden Shard is one of the most prominent merchantile powers in the known galaxy. The ease of access to the rare materials used in the manufacture of Girretium Super-Capacitors, namely Girretium, allows their ships to travel at speeds far in excess of any other power
The currency of the Golden Shard is the Girretium Standard Bill, or G-Bill, which is fixed to refined Girretium at a rate of 14 G-Bills to the Kilogram. As the Golden Shard has a vast stockpile of Girretium and a near-monopoly on its manufacture the currency is exceedingly stable and is thus used as a trade currency amoung spacers. The exchange rate is controlled by the local Guidlhouse in order to facilitate trade and balance the economies of the local powers to ensure a safe & secure trading environment.
