Kraken

Krakens are cephalopod-like creatures living deep under the sea. According to legends, they can hibernate for centuries. They are sentient, and have been known to lay claim to large swathes of the ocean. Ships that enter these areas often disappear. When the sea darkens, this presages a kraken's attack.   Some groups of seafaring people will worship the kraken in their area. It is not known what the kraken thinks of this.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The average lifespan of a kraken is unknown. Researchers have not yet developed a scale capable of weighing one.

Ecology and Habitats

While krakens can breathe both air and water, they prefer to live in the deepest parts of the sea.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Krakens attack their prey with their tentacles, then draw it towards their mouths and swallow it. When they attack large targets - such as whales, giant squid, or ships - they can call down lightning to bring down their prey. Should they wish to escape a fight, they will release an ink cloud that blinds their enemies while they swim away.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Krakens have the ability to see through illusions and magical darkness.   Krakens can communicate telepathically with those close enough to them, provided that they both know the same language.
