Valencia - The Growing Empire

The sparsely populated regions south of the Western Wastes never produced anything approaching a kingdom, let alone an empire. However, that all changed with the invention of airships and the arrival of the Storm King’s dark magic. While Valencia claimed to have been overrun by the Storm Lord during the years around the Sky Wars, many feel their rulers gave up too easily and were secretly happy about the invasion.   Years after the Sky Wars, centered in the mystical city of Varentil, a new empire grows like flowers from the desert after the yearly rain. Valencia, named after the river that flows through it, is home to the strange and mystical, the wonderful and powerful, the beautiful and frightening.   While the Kingdoms of the east (or east of Valencia, which is everything) fought with the Storm King, Valencia grew in power. Unlike the rest of the Osfilia who rejected the rise of dark magic brought by the Storm King’s legions, the cities of Valencia embraced it and used it to fuel their growth. Those born in such a harsh region do not easily dismiss such a tool of survival.   The embrace of the darker magics has of course put them in contention with the other nations of Osfilia. Dallamor in particular has repeatedly threatened war, and the Crystal University outlaws their teachings and those who have learned from them. Yet these things have not stopped, or even slowed, the growth of Valencia. Once separated by near impassable deserts and rocky mountains, this isolated region is now easily reachable via airship, and not all nations are as hostile as Dallamor. Others happily trade with the growing empire, buying their unique and wondrous artifacts. After all, frowned upon though it may be, buying a golem from Valencia is half the price of buying one from anywhere else.   Ruling this rising empire is an elected Emperor; The Visj of Doran. A nobleman and former master warlock at Valencia’s premier magical school; Settia Los, or “Supremacy House” in the common language. Exactly what plans Visi has for the future of Valencia, no one knows, but the world waits with trepidation to see if they will have enemies rising in both the east and the west.
