The Sky Palace

Drifting above the Western Wastes is a city unlike any other. The hulls of a thousand airships, wrecked but still afloat, are fastened together to form the base of this strange, floating city.   It began as a floating wreckage yard for ships seized and destroyed by the pirates. A dozen ships slung together to be used as salvage. Over time, as more ships were added, it became a refuge for those seeking a safe haven from a storm or pirate hunters. Some found temporary or permanent homes among the hulls of the ships as trade and other services became available, and before long the place became a bustling town.   Though as is the nature of pirates, as the city grew, so did the violence. The city has seen much killing in its short history as tavern brawls have turned into citywide fights between clans. More than one captain has tried to take full control of the city, leaving the place full of bodies and blood in the attempt. Yet one of these captains was successful, in a way. Using diplomacy, bribery, and a bit of violence, Captain Blackstorm brought peace, law, and rule to the city. Though not all pirates agree with the statement, he is now known the world over as the Pirate King.   He built for himself, in the center of the city, a palace to rival the lords of the lands. Using the massive captured ship Iron Courage as the base, he had constructed as massive palace seven stories tall (or eleven stories if you count those in the hull). Bedecked with the finest tapestries, painting, and statues ever stolen, it is a place fit for a king.   Yet the palace is only one part of the city. It also boasts docks to rival Dallamor’s Windocks, and a blackmarket unlike seen anywhere else in the world. It is not uncommon for legitimate merchants to find their way to the city for trade, paying a hefty protection fee of course.   Though the city now has rules and laws, it is in no way devoid of violence. The law are there to protect the city, not the individuals within it. Fighting and murder go mostly unpunished by the law, though any large fights are immediately dealt with, sometimes ending the banishment of the offending captain and crew.   Though Blackstorm’s grip on the city is strong, it seems only a matter of time until a rival captain sets their eyes on the Sky Palace and begins a war to take it.
