The Maker’s Tears: Osfilia’s Industrial Towns

Deep inland past Tinker City there lies a series of tortured, volcanic plains called the Maker’s Tears. These plains are home to the many of Osfilia’s industrial powerhouses. Due to the unique properties of the land and ores underneath, it is the cheapest, best place to build the huge smoke-belching blast furnaces and stinking tanneries for the major industries required to keep a world in motion.   Most large cities do not not have much in the way of industry except for upkeep operations, in large part to the havoc wreaked during the Sky Wars. In the years since, this industrial region seems to be able to produce enough for everyone, conveniently keeping the smells and smoke away from population centers.   The region is controlled by a small group of Humans, Gnomes and Dwarves, officially named the Crafting Guild (called the Craft Kings unofficially). The guild serves as arbiters for company disputes, deciding who will clear space for new factories, patent and industrial espionage accusations, as well as tearing down and distributing the resources and workers of any companies who go under. They are served by a seemingly endless horde of mute Golems who can be contracted to haul away waste or construct whatever is needed - for a price.   The great craters dotting the miserable landscape have been dubbed “towns” by the Craft Guild, giving them fanciful names that mask their true natures. While the area is filled with sulfurous smells and cloaked in steam and soot, most businesses will pay for minor spells to protect any skilled workers and, of course, sales offices making it a hellish land dotted with impossible green sanctuaries.

ShinyTown

Famous for metallurgy and metalwork. Raw ore is processed here from Osfilia’s mines, the very finest sheets of steel or iron or bars of shining pure gold are extruded by colossal foundries to be transported to nearby smithies ringing with sounds of hammers day in and day out. Each finishing company will have sanctuaries for their armorers, weapon makers and fine metal workers.

Clariton

Home to all manner of glasswork, from simple window panes to sophisticated potion bottles fused with runes and spellwork, designed to keep all manner of magic contained.

Lumberton

Woodworking, fletching, and pulp/paper making are all performed here. It is said a small guild of elven druids and rangers care for enormous trees, magically grown and protected in the centre of the town.

Tannerton

All manner of tanneries, leatherworking and parchement/vellum creation is completed here.

Cryssalton

The gem and crystal works here tend to be dwarfed by the surrounding industries, but make no mistake, these smaller shops jealously guard the magical secrets to make a divining rod work or ensure the sum of a Golem’s parts become a functioning whole.

Meekton

Huge Golem producing factories entirely full this crater, with many having been dug deep into the earth in order to fulfil the massive quantity of golem demand. The mostly Gnomish companies here will produce one or one million Golems as per your specifications, should you have the gold to trade.

Aeriton

As constructing airships ends up using many, if not all, of the industries in Maker’s Tears, the great airship companies have their major shipyards here. Since the design and prototyping is so secretive, the great gantries of these industrial giants are often magically swathed in occluding fogs or spells to hide any secrets inside.
