The Golden Reach

The Golden Reach is a massive city, almost a nation unto itself. Originally filled with refugees from anyone wanting to escape the horrors of the Storm King, it quickly grew into a mecca for anyone searching a new start in life.   What began as an enormous refugee camp was turned into a functional city with the discovery of mystical energy pockets deep below the earth. Thanks to a band of adventurers partnered with Gnomish inventors, a young but clever half-orc wizard named Telvin was able to construct devices that would funnel the energy into collectors placed around the city.   Powered by devices to create light and heat, the refugees were able to survive and eventually thrive in what was once inhospitable land. Over time, the technology and understanding of how to harness the energy evolved, allowing for large scale irrigation, plumbing, agriculture, power and light.   Sometimes called ‘the shining city’ due to the perpetually powered lights built throughout the entire city, the Golden Reach is known as a welcoming and ever-changing city, as a constant influx of people and new uses of technology mean the city is constantly evolving.   One of the few cities to openly give the same rights to dark elves and orcs that they do to all other races, the Golden Reach is known as a bastion of equality.   All of this conceals a leadership made up of mages and knights so protect the secrets of the mystical energy at all costs, and a thriving black market that enjoys the anonymity of a massive, ever-changing city. Rumours of a large underground gladiator arena and slave market are quickly squashed by the city's leadership, but the rumours persist regardless.
