The Belgorlum Mountains

In the far east lies an enormous wall of earth and rock known as the Belgorlum Mountains. Sometimes called the Severed Hills for how the mountains jut suddenly out of the plains around them, this region is home to vast caverns filled with treasure, deep mines reaching unknown depths and fantastic cities built of rare and beautiful stone.   Reaching far above the clouds, the mountains tower over any man-made structure, with low oxygen, snowy mist and high winds making it challenging for even the best airship captains to traverse its snowy peaks. The Dwarves call this place home with great pride, and so were willing to sacrifice everything when the Storm Lord’s forces attacked.   Belgorlum has many locations of note, all connected through a labyrinth of caverns and tunnels. The great city of Thelrus is housed in the southern end of the mountain range - a citadel of iron and stone known throughout Osfilia as being nearly impregnable. Thelrus is led by a council of nine dwarves, each representing a district of the city. The council’s current leader is Grand Speaker Thomear Blackhammer, who while stooped with age acquited himself with distinction as a general during the wars and is known as a fair but stern ruler.   The true strength of the Dwarves lies in its seemingly infinite miles of mine shafts. Nicknamed the Grayborn Mines by most Dwarves, the dwarven miners that work there spend so much time in the mines, that over the years have their skin turns a mottled grey. Having developed their own sub-culture, the Grayborn Dwarves do not mirror the pleasant, almost jolly attitude of the Mountain Dwarves. Instead they believe that only the Dwarves should benefit from the riches of the mountains.

Notable Locations:

With smithing being integral to the Dwarven economy, it’s no surprise that their major cities are built around incredibly massive forging and manufacturing plants. Three main forges make up the largest cities in Belgorlum: Redren Hall, Silverkeep Forge, and the Forge of Nordith.   Redren Hall: Located deep within Greyhand Peak in the north, Redren Hall is primarily a forge for the crafting of fine jewelry and cutting of beautiful jewels.   Silverkeep Forge:Within the great city of Thelrus is Silverkeep Forge, an enormous refinery that contains the largest amount of refined iron, steel, and other precious metals in all of Osfilia. The Forge of Nordith: Nordith was a powerful Lord who saw clearly the danger posed by the Storm Lord and his armies. Ignoring the mockery of his peers, Nordith worked with gnomish inventors to build a workshop focused solely on the creation of ever more powerful and sophisticated weaponry and armor, along with some of the strongest battle equipment ever seen.   The Mountain’s Heart: The grand vault of the Dwarves, hidden deep within the mountain. Guarded by the Phalaxes of the Emberfire, Belgorlum’s elite guard. The vault contains vast riches, everything from gold and gems, to lost artifacts and enchanted weapons and armor.   Bugbark Tower: A crumbling spire sitting atop a nameless peak, the Bugbark Tower is mentioned in children’s tales as being the home of terrible ogres and dark magics.   Arangar: A Dwarven trade city located at the foot of the mountains in what is known as the Ancient Highlands, home to Giantbrew Lodge, a renowned tavern situated overtop of a river.
