Shimmering Fields
Located in the Land of Aginrese, in an area of volcanic activity. It is a large area that is hot and humid. The ground is rocky with little plant life. Cracks run along the earth venting gases occasionally.
The main features of the Shimmering Fields are the depressions filled with bubbling pools of iridescent liquid. These pools also produce noxious gases. They are not pleasant to the human nose. The intense smell of these gases has overwhelmed more than one creature. Fainting from the lack of air and/or smell leads to the creature's eventual demise. The area is highly dangerous as the gases and liquid are poisonous to humans. Only a small variety of flora and fauna live around the Shimmering Fields.
The Shimmering Fields are home to creatures found nowhere else in the Known World. These creatures are all poisonous or venomous in some way, with the potency of such depending on the species. It is theorized that these creatures adapted by consuming the lethal flora and liquid to acquire these same traits. A few of the smaller species were able to have been tamed. The Aginrese keep them in special fields or caves aways away from their towns.
The Aginrese people have spent centuries trying to find a use for the resources produced by the fields. The poisonous and venomous materials have been used as weapons and in making medicines. It is due to the lethal Shimmering Fields and other areas that the Aginrese people are skilled in medicine. Only a skilled few are permitted to visit and harvest resources from the fields. This job is usually done by certain families. Over time, these families have adapted to the field's dangerous conditions. It has made them mildly impervious to poison, venom, and the noxious fumes.
It is only recently that valuable mineral deposits have been found underneath the vents and pools.
