Princess Veronica

Princess Veronica was once a noble of Medieval Skolotoi. Her feats include miraculous healing and calling lightning down from the sky. She has recently become the subject of several dime novels and comic books. These tales have been especially popular in regions loyal to the monarchy.

Summary

Princess Veronica is a woman of extraordinary abilities. Her lover, Raven the Tactician, is torn between his loyalty to his nation and loyalty to his secret wife. Her arch nemesis is the wicked Frederick the 3rd, ruler of the evil Holy Roman Empire. Her amazing abilities include calling lightning down from heaven and healing others through prayer. She used these abilities to push back the menacing HRE and save her homeland. Recent opponents featured in many novels include the Godless Peasants and the Republic of Unova (thinly veiled allegories for the Warrensburg Revolt and the Federation). Her stories are regarded as royalist propaganda aimed at children by the monarchies detractors.

Historical Basis

Princess Veronica was in fact a real person in 15th century Skolotoi. While Raven the Tactician was married to Princess Veronica, and did at one point fight in a war against Skolotoi, it's likely the two never met until years later. While Azukai did engage in small skirmishes with knights from the Holy Roman Empire, it's very unlikely she ever saw the battlefield and even more unlikely Frederick III had anything to do with their deployment. The stories of Veronica killing Frederick and visa versa are also not true. She was however a very important monarch as she her tax reforms brought much needed economic stability. This of course wouldn't make a very good pulp magazine so it's omission from pop culture is understandable.

Cultural Reception

She is particularly popular in the royalist regions of Skolotoi and is considered a folk saint. Her popularity particularly exploded when the stories were reconfigured to be propaganda after the rise of the Revolt and the Federation. Various authors in the Federation and revolting regions of Skolotoi have made satires of her stories. These include having modern supporters of the regimes time travel and solve problems facing the Princess with industry, science, socialism/capitalism, or converting her to atheism. They're considered particularly poor taste even by those in the regimes but have nonetheless had some popularity.
