Scepters

Appearance: The scepters of the Faith are of varying length, ornament, and most importantly power, at different levels within the Faith’s hierarchy. The most basic scepters look little more than walking sticks, black, about a yard in length, straight and unadorned except for a single knob at the top for gripping. Greater nobles, who oversee the nourishment of the community, are shorter and more functional, about a foot long, the look like wands. They are however more ornate than the scepters of lesser nobles, consisting of a black base, with a white Sargasso (representing the divine mysticism of the ocean) curled around it, its neck forming the handle. The scepters of church authorities are far larger, more like staffs. These staffs have great time and effort put into their details, and vivid coloring depicting important stories and dogmas. These scepters are held by those in set positions, and are passed down for generations, some of the original scepters held by these offices are still in circulation. Uses: The scepters are the vessels of the Essence, without which all of the uses of the Essence would be impossible. The primary uses of the Essence are the creation of food and fresh water from inert matter. Even the most odious waste may be turned into a wonderful feast in mere minutes by one who wields the most powerful of these scepters. These scepters are powerful a well, folk legends of dubious veracity claim that sinning foremen have been turned to water where they stand by the Faith. This power is limited based on rank, the differences between scepters is not just physical. Obedience to the law is written into the scepters of mere nobles. These scepters are nonetheless highly productive in the case of greater nobles who provide for their serfs. For the lesser nobles, more distant relatives of the higher ranking nobles, the scepters are only capable of providing for the nobles and their families. Lesser nobles hold no real power, but neither do they have any real responsibilities. In truth the scepters of the holiest members of the Faith serve a similar purpose. Though the most powerful of any scepters, they in practice are mostly used for providing personal meals.
