Sirel

Created by

A wide world of forests, plains, mountains, oceans, and deserts, more ancient than anyone knows. Sirel has two moons, one of which (Nuenov, the larger) stands motionless in the sky. It is home to a wide variety of civilized and savage races (including the dominant dwarves, elves, halflings, and humans), sapient creatures, and monsters. Dragons fly the skies and wizards wield their magic. The gods speak, and empower worshippers, but do not interfere.   Once, the human-ruled Nolum Empire was master of the known world. Once, it controlled nearly all of the continent of Carath. Once, it ruled over a shining golden age of peace, learning, and great magic. That has all come to an end. The Empire has fractured, and continues to fall apart, first at the edges, but now ever-closer to Imperial Centre.   As the Empire collapses, other fortunes are on the rise: former provinces now independent, or the few areas that remained free of Imperial control now seizing their moment. The elven forest-nation of Se'equinar and the human maritime nation of Pérunter, the only rivals to the Empire at its height, now compete over the shipping lanes and resources of the Maresirel Sea. The "free" city-states of Edonia, sheltered from Imperial ambitions by Se'equinar, expand their influence and mercantile interests in the wake of a war against hordes of undead. The break-away province of Anzora seeks to convert the world to their monotheistic religion; their crusaders have already secured the Holy Kingdom of Loduen, once lost to antiquity beyond Carath. Nyegia, once a large and ambitious province, seeks to hold its territory together in the face of internal pressures, and perhaps recreate the pre-Imperial Nyegian Combinat.   Meanwhile, the many less-powerful former provinces and splinter kingdoms in the shadow of these giants struggle to get by, warring against each other, rising and falling with the actions of heroes and villains, and slowly sinking into a dark age.
