What is the leading cause of death in your world?   The leading causes of death for Users in Simulacra City are assisted death or mental migration.  Since the invention of the SCAN Technology, even food is not a problem anymore: it is possible to design and produce any kind of dry food, then add cold or hot water and you have basically any kind of recipe. With the scan technique is even possible to create solid and dry drugs and medical compounds for vaccination and treathment of the couple of illnesses that are still active on population (most of the illnesses of the XXI and XXII centuries have been wiped out). These nanobots can do a whole array of things inside the brain: disrupt the flow of chemicals, stimulate synapses electrically, create micro-lesions and even alter some genes locally making them inactive. Those nanobots can even simulate Audio/Video images of the R.E.M. dream phase. During the early years of Simulacra City suicide was absolutely the most common cause of death. It was substantially death by boredom or lack of motivation. But this soon was catalogued as a mental illness and found its different medical approches as explained before. Nowadays some users still find rational reasons to wanting to end their life. After living for even centuries, many Users take a trip and meditate on ending their personal journey. Of corse suicide isn't freely allowed in Simulacra; you need to fill a formal request and take some counseling via the Network. During these sessions of counseling, the NETWORK performs a special kind of brain and psicological scansion and the Neural Network then overlaps the 2 scans: psicological and physical and creates a set of algorhytms that realistically simulate the subject cognitive process, reasoning and emotive pattern response. This set of algorhytms is stored in the NETWORK memory. If approved, the subject has usually a small window of time to request terminal hospitalization. There are several structures that provides this service for Users in Simulacra City, while a small amount of Engineers usually make the drugs by themselves and do them at home.  After death of a User Simulacra Government still remains in possession of the mental simulation of the subject and can use it to make simulations or even to create a digital avatar of the persona to use over the NETWORK. This is needed to make hard to tell on the NETWORK if a person died and not to spread a mass suicide scenario... There are also cases in which some Users want to transfer their counsciousness into a synthetic organism and so choose NOT TO GO ON with their biological life. This is considered a personal faith matter in different Metropolis and the option was also banned in some of them, but in Simulacra City is still possible to transfer human consciousness while simultaneousley ending biological life... Even considering these last options, death is still a very rare occurrence for Simulacra City. What has been observed, thou, in the last decades is a progressively slowing down in the NETWORK activities participation from older Users and Engineers. Most of them slow down so much in their activity that can even go dormient even for years without going out of their houses and having any conversation. There's literally milions of people living like this in Simulacra City.
