Himansaism

Himansaism is the national religion of the Eiji Empire. Its name comes from the Eiji endonym, Himansa.

Mythology & Lore

Amid the chaos of the universe-to-come was a single point of light. This light was Piziizom, the Creator of all things. He created all things: the stars, the planets, the oceans, the land, and all the life that populates the world. Then, out of material from the land, he created a wife for himself, Yádungkas. With his obedient wife's support, Piziizom blessed the Eiji people (who did not yet exist) and gave them the gods' favor.

Several stories tell of Himansa prophets from other cultures.

Divine Origins

Himansaism came from nature worship practices in early Eiji history. Two deities of that religion--the powerful-but-passive sky god Piisiisom and the highly-revered earth goddess Yadaamkasom--became Piziizom and Yádungkas.

As Himansaism spread and encountered gods of other religions, it assimilated the local gods by considering them chosen prophets of Piziizom and Yádungkas, selected to spread the faith to their respective cultures.

Cosmological Views

Since Piziizom was born out of the chaos from before the universe existed, Piziizom lives outside the universe itself. The realm outside the universe is the realm of the King and Queen of the Universe.

The realm outside the universe contains at least two realms for the afterlife. The King's Palace is where loyal believers go to live with Piziizom and Yádungkas. The Blank Realm is where nonbelievers go. It is neither good nor bad, neither light nor dark, neither pleasant nor painful. Some people believe that sinners go to the Blank Realm. Others believe that sinners go to a place of punishment. There is disagreement on whether sinners reside in this realm forever or temporarily.

The universe consists of the land, sea, and sky. While the most literal interpretations of theology consider the stars and the other planets to be of the realm outside the universe, less literal theologies (which are more common) consider outer space to be part of Piziizom's creation.

Tenets of Faith

  1. Obey the King and Creator of all things.
  2. Worship only the Creator and his Wife as gods.
  3. Serve the nation.
  4. Love your fellow members of the nation.
