Sharrodras

The world of Sharrodras is an ancient one. Empires have risen and fallen, wars have been waged and cultures have been developed and have been lost. Though a time without conflict is only an utopic dream, the largest continent of Ussath Riel is facing a time of relative peace. The word "relative" hereby meaning that the largest conflicts facing the civilised peoples on the surface of Ussath Riel are confined to the occasional interstate warfare over border issues, or intrastate conflicts that are kept within the confines of a single nation's borders. To those who find themselves affected by these conflicts it may seem wrong, or hasty to speak of a relative peace while war is still, in fact, being waged. The term "a relative peace", however, serves to differentiate the current state of affairs from past conflicts and events that have affected entire empires, cultures, continents, and even planes of existence. The latest of such world shaking events is the most recent spilling over of the ageless Blood War onto the material plane. An event that is now known as the Silent Invasion.   During the Silent Invasion, the human empire of Valmith - at the height of its power and eagerly looking for ways to expand its borders - was completely caught off guard by the opening of a portal to the Abyss within the heart of the empire, followed by demons spilling into the capitol city of Vodril. Through some quick thinking and a lot of effort, Vodril and the surrounding area were sealed in a magic barrier, containing the demon invasion until the Valmithians were able to end the invasion from within the barrier. The event, however, caused the Valmith empire to collapse on itself and sent ripples throughout the civilized realms of Ussath Riel. Even though nearly 200 years have passed since - and those affected by the invasion are rebuilding - the memories remain fresh and no one can tell if, or probably "when" another cataclysmic event like the Silent Invasion will end the current time of "relative peace".
