A world in which the planet itself is a rotted rocky husk, deadly magical miasma covering the world's surface carried by roaring winds and it's vacant jagged surface. None could ever exist in such a hostile and deadly surface. Life carried on, as the endlessly expansive world was littered with floating islands high in the sky that houses all life. Archipelagos of islands, segmented into regions, are maintained by holy obelisks that maintain the environment and residents via flow of aether- the essence of life itself. Each obelisk holds the soul of a great being, an Astral, who's will influences the lands around them unconsciously. The sky seems to stretch endlessly, holding uncharted lands to explore for life, civilizations, and treasure.   These islands are sometimes addled with Chimera, beasts of dark intent that live only to hunt all of the races to extinction. Chimera are driven not by hunger, but by bloodlust. They do not eat their prey, they wish only for the extermination of all life. While thankfully driven away from civilized lands, these creatures stalk the dark uncharted corners of the sky. They are a blight to the world of Shard, and are truly the common enemy of all life- stopping wars by forcing alliances to stop the Chimera menace.   Each region, in times past, would typically govern themselves. Finding their worship of the obelisks bringing them fortune and bounty, believing a pantheon of all Astrals guiding Sharidians- the world's children, to prosperity. Many regions would go on to form large ruling bodies of governance, with the Halidom of Libete often being hailed as the order in which will bring peace to Shard. The queen of Libete is hailed as the speaker of the Astrals and is looked to in times of peril with her legion of Sky Knights to protect the lands from both it's own inhabitants and Chimeras, and scores of Adventurers who soar the winds in hopes to fully map the world of Shard, finding any regions and life, civilized or not, to make first contact with.   Many believe that the world has history past what any may remember, finding ruins on islands that suggest life before any else. With such little recorded history beyond 1000 years ago, and even fewer still believed to be more than old stories, the truth may be forever lost.
