CFD

Cognitive Fragmentation Disorder, or CFD, is a relatively recent condition that is not widely known in 2075. It is caused by nanites overwriting the victim's personality with that of an Artificial Intelligences. Sufferers of CFD call themselves "Monads", but the term "Headcase" has become a derogatory way to refer to them.

Nanites - for the most part CFD must be actively controlled to infect someone.

Treatment

In 2075 there are few ways to combat CFD, but it is possible and more are developed in the coming years:

• Technomancers are able to develop complex forms to unload willing AIs out of the nanites.
• It is possible to enter a Foundation-like construct to eject or kill the AI.
• Fastjack has created a program that will put the AI into a dormant state. This is unreliable, however, as the AI can awake at inopportune moments.
• Those infected with HMHVV are immune to CFD, and those with CFD are resistant to HMHVV. If a metahuman ever contracts both at once, they will die.
• By 2079 Celedyr develops a reliable set of hunter-killer nanites, called Overwriters that are able to combat minor infection.
• At some point, Shiawase develop Nanoscrub a costly but effective way of combating CFD. It takes several hours to administer and can play havoc with cyberware, however.

Cultural Reception

Until June 2076, CFD is not widely known.
