Knight Errant

The brainchild and pet project of Ares CEO Damien Knight, Knight Errant is Seattle’s second-largest security provider. The company’s training academy in Renton turns out new KE security personnel, and KE holds private security contracts throughout the metroplex. Knight Errant personnel are given the best equipment from other Ares subsidiaries. Ares Arms uses KE to test some of its newest prototypes, particularly non-lethal weapons. Sleek and stylish in their black uniforms, Knight Errant security agents have a better media profile than Lone Star. The Star officers are still regarded as beat cops, while KE personnel are considered elite.

Although Knight Errant does not have the same problems as Lone Star Security Services with their blatant anti-meta-human racism and chauvinism of its employees, the Ares subsidiary enjoys a well-deserved cowboy image. Knight Errant Peace Officers are more highly trained and better paid than Lone Star and in addition, KE has significant anti-corruption efforts. Shadowrunners know that this public reputation of a clean-cut force does gives greater deniability to the many criminal cops that do abuse their power within the organization.

The combination of outstanding weapons and technical equipment and the elite-military training of its security forces and bodyguards makes Knight Errant one of the most powerful and largest corporate security companies. As such, they are likely only surpassed by Aztechnology Corporate Security. In the area of privatized police work, it ranks second in North America, immediately behind the industry leader Lone Star.

Structure

Knight Errant likes to project he image of a sacred knightly order, applying biblical terminology to their vernacular. Knight Errant squads are divided into 6 officers including 1 commander, and each squad is given names of biblical significance. Each Knight Errant precinct handles the naming differently, and squad names are not often permanent and change depending on the squad's role in a given mission. Old Testament books are popular choices. Call signs are designated by the team name followed by their number, such as Leviticus 1 or Ezra 6. The teams may replace the Christian iconography with something more suited to the locals, taking team names from the Quran or even the Book of Mormon. If New Testament books are used at all, it is usually for squads that are acting as a diplomatic liason or public relations. The team commander is always number 1, or sometimes Commander. Black Ops squads are named after the apocryphal books (Enoch Squad, Baruch Squad). The elite HTRH elimination team is usually Exodus Squad (sometimes called Exo-Squad for short). Genesis is reserved for the regions' chief and his inner circle.
