Rage

Garou are prone to Rage and often use it as a weapon in itself in their endless war against the Wyrm, yet the Garou must take care for Rage has to be balanced. Too little and the Garou might lack the strength to effectively fight his adversaries, too much and he will enter a frenzied state. The rage tracker goes from a value of 1-10. The following rules apply to it:
  • No Rage: If the Garou has no points in Rage than he will shapeshift back to his breed form, be unable to shapeshift and be unable to use any Gifts which require him to use Rage Points.
  • Maximum Rage (10): If the Garou possess 10 Rage points at the start of his Turn than he must immediately pass a willpower test against his Frenzy Difficulty. If the test is failed, he immediately enters Berserker Frenzy.
  • Rage over Will: If the Garou possess more Rage than his current Willpower rating than he becomes affected by his Tribal Trait (note some Tribal traits are active regardless of this fact).

Using Rage

Rage is used during the activation of some Gifts, Shapeshifting or for Rage related special actions which are listed below. A Garou can only spend as many Rage Points per turn as is his Primal Instinct Rating:
  • Battle Frenzy: 1 Rage Point and 1 Action can be spent for the Garou to enter Battle Frenzy. If the character is not in Crinos form already than this Action takes the entire Turn to perform (due to shapeshifting). Note, if the character shapeshifts using Rage he does not gain the benefit of Soak Tokens.
  • On the Hunt: 1 Rage Point can be spent in order for the Garou to perform an additional Action. This can only be done once per Turn and must be declared during the Intent phase.
  • Death before Dishonor: 1 Rage Point can be spent as a Reaction to ignore the effect of Stun or to prevent the Garou from becoming Incapacitated if his last health box is marked with Aggravated Damage.
  • Battle Shift: 1 Rage Point can be spent to automatically succeed in a Shapeshifting roll. However, it the character shapeshifts using Rage he does not gain the benefit of Soak Tokens.
  • Combat Focus: 1-3 Rage Point(s) can be spent before a Combat roll is made to add 1 Bonus Point, per point of Rage spent, to the roll.

Rolling for Rage

Whenever 1 or more Rage Points are used roll a red dice for each Rage Point spent and apply the results:
  • Blank: The Rage Point had been spent.
  • Success: The Rage Point had not been spent.
  • Critical Success: You have not lost a Rage Point and have instead gained an additional point of Rage.
  • Bestial Failure: You spent the Rage point but the action you performed is more violent than you would have wanted and usually to the determined of the target, its surroundings and the Garou himself.

Gaining Rage

Rage is gained in several different circumstance. Whenever a trigger for rage is met the player rolls the number of red dice as advised in the table below and adds as many Rage points per success as the table advises.
Outwardly speaking if the result is a Critical Success, Success or a Blank nothing is noticed and the Garou lets the Rage simmer inside him. If a Bestial Failure is rolled than the Garou fails to keep control over his Rage and immediately reacts in a confrontational manner towards the source of their Rage (depending on the Storyteller and player interpretation).

Permanent Rage

Permanent Rage is established by a characters Auspice and is the number of Rage Points a character will have at minimum after each moon rise. These points do not accumulate, instead permanent Rage simply gives the Garou a reliable pool of Rage Points he can tap into each night.
