Primal Urge

Primal Urge is the Garou's connection to his primal nature. It establishes how closely he is linked with the wolf side of his being and to the spiritual plane. It is tracked from 1-5 and usually remains the same throughout the entire game. Its value is used in the activation of many innate abilities the Garou possess. Primal Urge is generally established by ones Breed form and the Bonuses, or Negatives, of ones tribe. Regardless of any effects Primal Urge can never drop bellow 1 or exceed 5.   Characters with high primal urge will generally be very skilled shapeshifter, spirit guides and will be able to channel their anger and spiritual abilities to deadly effect. However they will struggle more than the rest of their kin in human society. Man made items will often break down or simply not work right for them, they will have a harder time controlling their fury and their link to the spiritual world makes them more susceptible to corruption. To make matters worse those with the highest form of Primal Urge will also bleed some of their Predatory Nature outwards making the humans they protect instinctually be hesitant to engage with them.   On the other hand characters with low primal urge will be very adept at hiding their true nature, they will have a handle on their fury and will be more resilient to spiritual corruption. They will also be able to blend in more seamlessly with human society and technology will generally obey them without issue. However they will find travel through the Umbra incredibly daunting, will struggle with their forms for a lot longer than their brethren and will find mastery of the spiritual arts a substantially challenging endeavor.   Please check the Primal Urge table bellow for its effects on your character:

Primal Urge

Primal Urge is tracked from a score of 1-5. It can never fall bellow 1 or go above 5 and remains normally unchanged throughout the game. This score is used in many tests performed by the Garou for their innate abilities.

Frenzy Difficulty

When a Garou enters any form of Frenzy this score is used as the basic difficulty that the character must beat in order to snap out of his frenzied state. The difficulty can be increased or decreased depending on the storyteller but this value is always used as the basic one before it is modified.   For instance: If a Primal Urge 5 and a Primal Urge 1 characters have to perform a frenzy test whose difficulty is increased by 2. Than the score for the Primal Urge 5 character to beat is 7 and the Primal Urge 1 character is 3.

Corruption Difficulty

When a Garou is at risk of being corrupted than this score is used as the basic difficulty that the character must beat in order to resist corruption. The difficulty can be increased or decreased depending on the storyteller but this value is always used as the basic one before it is modified.   For instance: If a Primal Urge 5 and a Primal Urge 1 characters have to perform a corruption test whose difficulty is increased by 2. Than the score for the Primal Urge 5 character to beat is 7 and the Primal Urge 1 character is 3.
