Designing Weapons

Weapons can be created on the go by the storyteller by simply applying the tags as stated in each weapons description. For instance, a club would be a Cumbersome, Medium, Bashing weapon. A small pistol can easily be a Light firearm with short range and auto reload, capable of firing small caliber bullets with no AP value. A weapon can even be given several tags in the same category depending on its uses. So, for instance a knife is a light, small, slashing and piercing weapon and its dice pool would be determined by how it is used (is the character using it to cut or to stab into a target).   Storytellers and characters should also be encouraged to create their own custom weapons. To assist you with this bellow is a table with the weapons tags broken down and includes a point buy system for the weapons. You would roughly gain 10 points in weapon creation for every 3 XP points you spend on it. The table is to be used to keep the weapon creation system at least somewhat fair, especially when it comes to character creation. I would however recommend reading a description of each tag under the weapon types themselves.   How to calculate weapon cost? If you look bellow the table you will be given the formula on how the weapon cost is calculated as well as additional specialized tags weapons can possess.

Weapon Cost Calculator

  Firearms
Armour   Melee Weapons
  • Bashing Weapons Cost = (Weight x 3) – Size + Specialized Tag(s)
  • Piercing Weapons Cost = (Size x 3) – Weight + Specialized Tag(s)
  • Slashing Weapons Cost = Weight + Size + Specialized Tag(s)
Multiple Tags?
If a weapon has multiple tags in a single type than its value is the combined cost of both of those tags.

Specialized Tags

Many specialized weapons have additional tags that make them more unique. Think of these as additions to make your weapons more individual. They do add an extra cost to the weapon and I would advise only ever choosing one or two specialized tags for weapons.
  • Silver (3): The weapon is either made out of silver or fires silver rounds.
  • Supernatural (3): The weapon is supernatural in nature and its attacks are treated as supernatural as well. These tag should be clarified with the Storyteller.
  • Master Crafted (2): The weapons user receives a 1 Point Bonus to any Melee or Firearms roll using the weapon.
  • Flaming (2): The weapon causes flaming attacks and can set things or individuals on fire.
  • Cursed (2): The weapon is cursed. Each curse is unique and clarified by the storyteller or known only to the storyteller.
  • Cold Iron (3): The weapon or its projectiles are made out of cold iron.
  • Possessed (2): The weapon possesses a spirit. What effect this has is clarified by the storyteller or known only to the storyteller.
  • Brittle (1): The weapon or munitions are likely to shatter when receiving a heavy impact. This could be by design.
  • Oversized (3): The weapon is large and not meant to be wielded by a normal humanoid but its damage is doubled. Only a creature with Endurance 5 can hope to wield such a weapon.
  • Bonded (3): The weapon is either, by supernatural means or a physical link (such as a chain or flesh grafted) to the user.
  • Template (3): The weapon can hit multiple targets in the same area each time it is fired. Flamethrowers usually possess this tag. This tag can only be taken by a Firearm or Ballistic Weapon and replaces its Range Tag.
