Breed

Werewolves have three breeds: Homid (human-born), Lupus (wolf-born), and Metis (Crinos-born).   The breed is determined by the natural form of a child’s mother. If the mother is a human (or Homid) Garou, then the child is born as a Homid. If the mother is a wolf (or a Lupus) Garou, then the child is born as a Lupus. If both the parents are Garou, the child is born as a Metis.   A werewolf’s true nature is shaped long before his First Change. If one of his parents is human, he will grow up in human society, learning the ways of man. If one of his parents is a wolf, he will be raised by wolves, and human society is a mystery to him. It is also possible that a werewolf might he born to two human parents or to a mated pair of wolves, if the werewolf blood is strong enough in his family, but this is a rare occurrence.   In game terms a Garou's “natural form” is the one he will always revert to when knocked unconscious or dead (while sleeping an alternative form can be maintained).

HOMID

Those born from the union of a Garou and a human.   Homid Garou tend to be more adaptable to human society and normally experience their first change after reaching puberty. Due to the declining numbers of wild wolves they are also the most numerous type of Garou in the modern nights.   Apply the following to your character if he is a Homid Garou:
  • The character's starting Primal Urge level is 2.
  • Chose a single permanent Level 1 Homid Gift for your character to possess.
  • Homid Garou are not injured by silver, unless it had entered their bodies, while in their human form.
  • Homid is the Garou's natural form.
  • A Homid Garou can have a maximum of 8 Gifts active during each session. This includes the 3 Permanent Gifts he gets during character creation (from Breed, Auspice and Tribe).

LUPUS

Those born from the union of a Garou and a wolf.   Lupus Garou tend to be more in touch with their instincts but struggle to adapt to human society.   Apply the following to your character if he is a Lupus Garou:
  • The character's starting Primal Urge level is 4.
  • Chose a single Level 1 Lupus Gift for your character to possess.
  • Lupus is the Garou's natural form.
  • The character suffers a 2 Point Penalty for any rolls related to the following skills: Craft, Drive, Firearms, Streetwise, Academics, Finance, Science and Technology.
  • The character gains 2 Points of Gnosis during each moonrise. This is not permanent Gnosis, simply something he always draws upon due to his primal nature.
  • A Lupus Garou can have a maximum of 10 Gifts active during each session. This includes the 3 Permanent Gifts he gets during character creation (from Breed, Auspice and Tribe).

METIS

Those born from the union of two Garou.   These types of unions are looked down upon within Garou society as the resultant offspring will always be sterile and deformed in some manner. Due to this Metis are usually shunned by Garou society.   Apply the following to your character if he is a Metis Garou:
  • The character's starting Primal Urge level is 3.
  • Chose a single Level 1 Metis Gift for your character to possess.
  • When interacting with Garou Society the character suffers a 1 Point Penalty on all Social Rolls.
  • The Garou does not apply Penalty Points when shapeshifting due to skipping intermediate Forms. He instead always treats his shapeshifting difficulty as 3.
  • The character must take a Deformity.
  • Any Silver weapons or items always double the amount of damage caused when targeting a Metis.
  • A Metis Garou can have a maximum of 13 Gifts active during each session. This includes the 3 Permanent Gifts he gets during character creation (from Breed, Auspice and Tribe).
