Character Creation
1. Choose a Playbook
Choose a Playbook that suits your playstyle. We use slightly modified version of the ones present in The Sprawl rulebook.2. Name and Description
Name your character and choose description from the playbook (or come up with your own! -- What is the first thing we notice about your character?)3. Assign Stats
Assign the following numbers to the six stats (Style, Edge, Cool, Mind, Meat and Synth): +2, +1, +1, +0, +0, -1. Each playbook will recommend one or two stats to be prioritized. You'll use:- COOL to remain calm and focused in stressful situations
- EDGE to draw on your street-smarts and experience or give the impression that you are a badass
- MEAT to use your physical talents without the aid of cyberware to overcome a problem
- MIND to think your way out of a problem through logic, instinct, creativity or any other mental process
- STYLE to handle a situation with charisma, presence or nerve
- SYNTH to interface seamlessly with technology
4. Choose Cyberware
In The Sprawl, everyone’s got chrome, but replacing human tissue with metal and plastic isn’t a trivial exercise. Choose one piece of Cyberware from the options on your playbook. Think about how and why you got into this business. The MC will ask you two questions: 1. Why did you get part of your body cut out and replaced with electronics? Choose one: prosthetic, forced, loyalty, enthusiasm, necessity, junkie, genetics, career, ideology, memory, military. 2. How did you afford to have someone cut out part of your body and replace it with electronics? Choose one:- You scrimped and saved to buy it yourself. Choose one tag to apply to that piece of cyberware: +unreliable, +substandard, +hardware decay, +damaging.
- Someone else paid for it; now you owe them. You’re owned. Choose who owns you.
- You fucked someone over to get it. You’re hunted. Choose who you double-crossed.
5. Choose Playbook Moves
Your Playbook will invite you to pick your starting moves.6. Choose Gear
Each Playbook will have a selection of gear to select from. These will generally cover the basic needs of this type of character. If you have something else in mind, consult the GM. You will begin with 5 Cred.7. Consider Your Background
Think of a sentence or two that describes how your character came to become freelancer in the corporate underbelly. It's neither a glamorous nor an easy life. This will determine the sorts of Contacts your character is able to call upon.8. Directive and Signals
Directives are personal goals of your character that may come in conflict with the goals of the mission. By fulfilling these optional objectives, you can earn additional XP. Signals are indicators for the types of interactions you would like to have with other player characters. When you choose a Signal, it will reward another player XP when they interact with you in a certain way. Likewise, you earn additional XP for hitting other characters' Signals. Choose two Directives and one Signal from the list here.Alternate Rules for Convention Games: Directive Cards
There are a number of directive cards in the center of the table. These directives are optional challenges any character may undertake. When a character fulfills one of the directives, they mark 1 XP and take the card. They may then play the card at any time to reroll the dice on any roll involving their character, but must take the new result. Each character may do this once per game.9. Prior Jobs
You're not new to the shadows. You've done a few jobs before and some of the Corps are on your trail. Describe a previous job you led. Who else was on the job? Who was the target? Advance that Corp Clock by 3. Describe another job that you participated in. Choose the targeted Corporation and advance that Corp Clock by 1.You're ready to play!
For further reading, you may want to look at the Primer, which summarizes the setting of SG2048. It's entirely optional!Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
