Wavebreakers

While coastal fleets have operated successfully without interruption since long before the fall of Del Cora, only at the peak of their respective technologies were the old world nations able to reliably navigate waters more than 30 miles out from the coast. This was accomplished through the use of Wavebreaker Ships, a term used to refer to any of the many designs that successfully crossed the open waters of Aeris.

Wavebreakers are typically built as massive steel vessels, formed into a series of giant wedges. Wide steel plates would arc over their decks, slicing up from each side of the ship, protecting the crew from the worst of the storms. These shields are regularly rotated around the axis of the ship to allow the crew to cut away any attached plant-life, while a second crew stand guard against predatory wildlife. The vessels also sported exceptionally powerful arcane engines to drive them through the strong currents and voidpools that easily trap and consume lesser vehicles.

Access & Availability

There were never a great number of these ships, and most were lost as part of the last conflicts of the Great War. Those that remain are simply inoperative hulks, providing little more than steel and shelter to the people who have claimed them. The Whiteleaf family has, through various means, acquired three of the four vessels known to exist that are almost entirely intact. The fourth is in the hands of the salvage guild, who are desperately trying to bring it up to operational status despite a series of debilitating setbacks.
