Dragons

Dragon origin myth by IntelligentZombie, edited by anatomyofagun

Dragons were tiny lizards who ran into the fires that nature left before men figured out how to start them. They made friends with the spirits in those fires, swelling up with the ancient magic that should have destroyed them. They breathe fire because they have always breathed fire, because despite the memories they pass down in their genes, none can remember the time before the fire moved in them, before everything they were was destroyed to make way for the great things they would become.

They, like fire, are creatures of purity and passion. They destroy as often and as eagerly as fire, laying waste to everything living and reveling in ashes. Men know that power lies with dragons, but they're not so easily killed, and not so quick to trust. They don't like the innocence of virginity of maidens, they like the lack of bullshit. They like sweet maidens in forest glens and uptown cafes, they like hardened dames in dime novels, they like hard women and soft women and women who tell them about themselves. They like women who remind them of the fire they came from, tending and warm, enraged and devastating. - IntelligentZombie

"Legend says that Verbit was unhappy with Surt for gifting Prometheus with the knowledge to tame fire," She took a breath and pet Mou absently. "Because Prometheus did something dumb and gave a hybrid fire to humans. So Verbti did the normal thing, and tried to out-fire the humans." - Excerpt from Hell v7
