Alcohol & Economics - Something Dangerous - Part 8

She was absolutely buried in texts, from what Xavier could tell. He approached her cautiously; wary of the tome she had in hand. Deceit had pegged Merci with a nine hundred page dictionary and Darius with a book on stalking in the past hour alone.

“Uhm, ‘Ciet…” He ventured, ready to dodge any projectile literature. She didn’t even stir, attention completely absorbed by the volume that was bigger than her lap. Xavier called her again, a little louder as it was never a good idea to touch her while she was distracted. He’d ended up out the window or slammed into a wall enough times to learn his lesson.

“What?” She asked after a moment, marking her place with a sticky note before looking up.

“Your sister’s broken.” He informed her, completely serious. “She’s flipping out over a lack of goldfish. She never had a goldfish…”

“Xavi, you’re an idiot.” She pushed the book aside, growling about just how well Merci chose boyfriends and she chose babysitters.

“What? What’d I do?” He was so confused. She never had a fish!

Minutes later, he felt like such an idiot when Deceit pulled a small carton of goldfish shaped crackers out of her bag and threw them at him.
