Alcohol & Economics - Something Dangerous - Part 18

Sean rolled onto his back, wincing when he put pressure on his wrist. Damn that… whatever in the hell her name was. She could have given him a warning, at the very least. Or, you know, thrown him into the bale of hay, which he missed by a good four feet. He may have been amazing at compartmentalizing, but even Sean had a breaking point and he knew that today’s events were going to push him dangerously close to it.

In all honesty, Sean had the worst of luck. He’d been violently kicked out of a moving car by his psychotic now-ex girlfriend’s eldest brother for God only knows what reason. The best place they thought to do it? In the middle of the blazing desert. Sean had walked for days before collapsing from dehydration. He was lucky to have been found and cared for, even if the people who did so had strange names and stranger reptilian qualities. One of them, Sean thought he’d said his name was Mai, had pointed in the direction of “someone that could help” and sent him on his way. He had followed Mai’s directions to the letter, bypassing various villages and even a couple of cities. The rest of his journey was a bit hazy, but judging from his current state, the last hundred or so miles were absolute murder. Maybe he should just leave, perhaps continue walking until the next town and then start over. Sean was so tired; he doubted that he could make it another mile or two without at least water, let alone food.

Food may have been the worst thing for him to think of, as the iron grip of hunger became apparent. When was the last time he had eaten anything sustaining? Sean couldn’t remember. The more he thought the hazier everything became. He was battered, bruised, and in one hell of a mess.

“This is going to end up being nothing but grief…” He muttered to himself, poking at his wrist curiously. ‘Yep, still pain.’ Sean couldn’t see any other way out of this stable with poor sanitation, aside from the obvious: the door. Unfortunately, he didn’t really have anywhere to go except with that girl with blue eyes.

“Yeah, I’m so fucked.”
