Alcohol & Economics - Something Dangerous - Part 15

There was a loud cry that crackled through her window. Deceit awoke suddenly, drenched in a cold sweat and her heart fluttering from something she could not seem to recall in her sleepy state. She got up, her bare feet chilled against the wood floor. Closing the window on autopilot, she couldn’t remember opening it to begin with. Lying back down, her breathing deepened and she drifted off only moments later.

Manumit waited until she had stilled for some time before moving. He hadn’t been too fond of Phalec Gehanna’s orders, but if he was to disobey then Pan would be upset. He couldn’t afford to upset Pan, son of Gaia. Shuddering, the satyr made quick work of locating the vampire's bag. Unsurprisingly, it was buried beneath her discarded clothes. Manumit didn’t think that he’d ever be able to view her the same after seeing just how much lace she’d worn that day. But that wasn’t why he was here, and he couldn’t afford distractions.

Digging into her bag, he grasped at the scroll of the various weapon smugglers’ routes. Gehanna had been absolutely clear when he’d ordered the satyr to destroy the list, as it would cause him problems in the future. Manumit didn’t want to think about what would happen to him if he failed. Unfortunately for him, Deceit’s bag chose that time to clamp down on his forearm, its teeth-like zipper digging into his skin. He let out a cry of shock, and then froze.

‘Please please please don’t let her wake up!’ Deceit rolled in her sleep, but remained otherwise undisturbed. Manumit let out a sigh of relief and tried to figure out a way to keep his arm. If he allowed that bag to continue trying to amputate his arm, it would draw blood and then he’d be fucked. ‘Stupid vampires.’ But how was he supposed to get the scroll in one piece… He went to work.
